I’m almost ready to full down pay a Sea Lion this month but saw Tesla model y have cat a version super confused now

I have 2 issues with Tesla. The sunroof which is not covered (can buy cover from Taobao though), and the Gigacasting. BYD announced they are going down Gigacasting path.

https://www.sgcarmart.com/articles/...u-dont-want-to-wreck-your-high-tech-evs-34521

I don’t find the car above badly damaged enough to warrant total write-off. Unfortunately LTA considered the repair method a chassis change, which is not allowed in SG.

This is the 6s one, aka premium. The 3.8 s performance one cost $25K more I believe. And the Performance model road tax is very high.
The perf model is quite attractive in price, but ya, the road tax was a turn off for me. Yet don't feel like going for just base model. Wait and see ba.

Big brother @EJB have u considered xpeng G6? Think the only 2 EV SUV worth considering now is the G6 and sealion. Even tesla MY also no match in terms of value for money.

Now $206K. First time I saw the car was $199K. Price goes up in tandem with COE. First year road tax not included. They allow minimum $50K loan for 5 years. Comes with HUD and sunroof and can be covered/opened. I mention this because Tesla does not come with cover.

It was at 192k in january

Got one Sealion SG owner did a review on YouTube. His experience is what is gathered from my online research and test drive of the Sealion

Pros
1. Build quality is good
2. Sound proofing is good (Xpeng sounds worse and Tesla new model 3/y is as good). Both Sealion and Xpeng G6 have double pane front windows while Tesla Model Y have it for both front and rear windows).
3. Car looks nice and no need to top up for choice of colours unlike Tesla
4. HUD is useful and readable
5. Car seat looks nice and relatively comfortable, much better than Seal but loses to Xpeng G6
6. Door closing sounds good (Xpeng loses a lot on this. New Tesla sounds as good)
7. Steering feels good. Xpeng feels like driving at arcade. But Tesla feels the best

Cons
1. Software is lacking and got some minor issues (from YouTube owner). Xpeng is very good. The animated screen of the G6 shows the door of other cars opening too!). But I think Tesla takes the cake in terms of software. After all, Xpeng is trying to copy how Tesla does it’s software.
2. OTA updates is infrequent and doesn’t always work (from Facebook owner who had to drive down to service centre to update software). Btw, OTA for BYD is by region and not world wide as compared to Tesla and Xoeng. So with so many cars that BYD sells, you can understand why the OTAs are infrequent.
3. No auto parking (Xpeng has the best auto parking, better than even Tesla imho)
4. No God’s Eye for this gen. China has but Singapore will not get their model till end of this year or next year. So whoever buys now will not get God’s eyes.
5. Got “turbo lag”, as compared to Xpeng and Tesla.
6. Handling loses to Tesla but ok if you are just looking for a simple family car.
7. Electricity consumption is high, when compared to Xpeng and Tesla. That’s why while it has a bigger battery pack, the distance travelled between these 3 cars are similar.
8. Charging will be slower than Xpeng and Tesla due to bigger battery size (while distance never increase)

Hope this helps those looking for car 😊

Go test drive the new Model Y. I tested the RWD cat B version and felt that it is better than Xpeng and Sealion.

Nearly bought the Xpeng till I tested the new Model Y. See my other post listing my comparison.

I have not tested the Hyptec but I like Xpeng. It is by a big company which is looking to match and eventually take over Tesla.

G6 I love the auto parking. Best ever. But the steering is light (which I can accept) and the Xpedal is jerky and cannot compare with Tesla’s 1 pedal drive.

Still, I was considering buying. I didn’t buy because in end Feb, China launched the new G6 which is far better. Didn’t want to buy an older version which will be out of date (both design and functionality). If you can wait, I suggest you go for the new G6, likely end of this year or early next

Because China has gotten so advanced that the Japanese and European cars are lacking behind.

Some say that EV resale is poor. I agree that this is the case for now. But given that more and more people are buying EV (look at the sales year on year), next time less people will want ICE. I think this will happen in less than the 10 years COE. Maybe just 3-5 year when this shift will happen.

Owner review after 1 week. Shows things that you don’t see during test drive.

Too bad Toyota harrier too expensive if not I rather get a hybrid suv safe for next 10 years.
