I am pretty pissed with MOT over COE, EV Road Tax and EV early adopters’ rebate gimmicks (comes from PARF). Hope the same smartalecs remain in the team until COE collapses. I really wish to see the day that COE crashes down (like in the past) and the team being held accountable for the sudden loss of revenue.

even though they cut from your part, since you only get back 50% of part upon scrap, the rebates true value is around 50% of what they say right?

It was the only Electric Car that almost caused me to switch to electric but thank God, I managed to maintain my sanity. No electric until 2030.

I have 2 issues with Tesla. The sunroof which is not covered (can buy cover from Taobao though), and the Gigacasting. BYD announced they are going down Gigacasting path.

I don’t find the car above badly damaged enough to warrant total write-off. Unfortunately LTA considered the repair method a chassis change, which is not allowed in SG.
is the new model Y gigacasted too?

Sounds about right. You are very cheem. :)

Yes, still gigacasted. Accidents do happen and Tesla is a safe car hence people inside the car should be safe. Problem is the car is prone to write-off.
U rather save your kids in the car, or save the car?

In Malaysia and Thailand BYD keep on slashing price,

BYD Singapore got slash price or not?

They slashing of price if any is insignificant as compared to COE fluctuation. Difference of their slashing is few k?

tiagong model 3 not gigacasted

I am not sure. I was told Tesla uses Gigacasting in a way that has risks of write-off if LTA considers the repair mechanism a chassis change. Googling now for Model 3 says gigacasting is used to manufacture front and rear (2 pieces) , but I can’t be sure what LTA will think if any of these 2 pieces have to be changed for a repair. I find it stressful to have to worry about this.

They will just push up their profit margin. The profit market for a Sealion in Sg is about the cost of the imported vehicle.

BYD selling too well to warrant price cut

Yup. Their profit margin is high. Actually sealion has lower OMV than the Seal but selling at same price. Most buyers will say aiyo SUV same price as sedan might as well buy SUV. Haha

Indeed. But most people don’t understand. Dealers will just hide their high margins together with COE and say that the high cost of cars are due to the high government tax and COE. What is unknown to most people is that their profit margin contributed to up to 50k of the 200k sales price.

Last time, such margins are acceptable as you may get 5 years of free servicing for ICE cars. However, nowadays, EV hardly needs servicing so they are outrightly profiting with low running cost for free servicing.

If not for the fact that we are right hand drive, I will import the car directly from China and I can even bring in the newer models for lower price. Just that I will need to price in and take into consideration the time taken for LTA to process a new model.

Exactly. And the so called 40k VES also went into the AD's pocket.

Yup quite a chore to self import. But for EV, the biggest concern is the EV battery warranty. Still need byd singapore to honour the warranty for a peace in mind.
