Which model you driving? When I tested the new Y, the short ride of 5 pax only took 15.4kw/100km. That’s with some acceleration to test the pick up. Based on calculations, can hit above 428km. Maybe the new Y indeed has better efficiency as stated. Also do you use 1 pedal drive?

On Facebook, I see 2 groups of consumption experience. One group like you and the other group who said they can easily hit above 400km. Am guessing that aircon temp could be one difference.

I see posts that says that Xpeng can reach as low as 12kw/100km. But during the test drive, I clocked 19.5kw/100km. And that test drive I didn’t even drive very fast. Based on that, can only hit 338km. But yet on forums, many say they can exceed 400km. Others clock only 300 plus.

So without driving both for pro longed periods, I came to the conclusion that Tesla and Xpeng are both rather efficient, as compared to BYD. Would be happy to hear your experience.
Tesla cars have the best power efficiency, this has been validated many times. Tesla cars' motor drive is efficient top notch as well, that is the reason, when thorough assessment is done, one will find Tesla model Y has the highest score.


Tesla model 3 /18" wheels can achieve 120-130 WH/km,
my performance model with 20 inches wheels can achieve 140-160, my daily drive/ slight aggressive profile is in the 150-160 WH/Km.

lol didn’t he say you will lose 30-50% when you want to sell EV? Why is the Xpeng listed at less than 10% off then, after driving for around 6 months.This depreciation is common whether it is ICE or EV.

Such much for the myth created by such dealers.
You bring ICE a second hand car salesman will say your car lousy. Difficult to sell. Gearbox got issue. Only can offer u scrap value

You bring EV, they will say, no demand, difficult to sell. Will explode. Can only offer u scrap value

Only silly ppl listen to 2nd hand car dealer

Tesla has good efficiency because the one pedal drive forces the driver to accelerate and deceleration gradually. Any car which accelerates or decelerates like that would achieve good efficiency if not better.

The sealion has some kind of smart absorber that adapts to road conditions. Anyone can attest to how good is that?

I went for a test drive. The BYD guy told me no need to use brake when going over a hump. Once you release from the accelerator, the car will slow down. I didn’t quite get that. Is this suppose to be the way it is driven?

Tesla has good efficiency because the one pedal drive forces the driver to accelerate and deceleration gradually. Any car which accelerates or deceleration like that would achieve good efficiency if not better.
There are many contributing factors to energy efficiency.
The motor drive system with mixed of RSM motor + PM Synchronous motor are contributing factors that are mostly being ignored.
China EV is catching up very fast, you will start to see more advanced motors drive being used versus the commonly available PM synchronous motor.


For Regenerative energy recovery system, indeed most cars will implement this, just that Tesla masters the tricks in a way it gives much less disruption/ discomfort.

My observation, Tesla. Accelerator pedal's bounce force is lower than Seal(highest )/ Sea Lion, this may contribute to more frequent sudden lifting of 🦶 from accelerator pedal due to discomfort but this causes regenerative braking pull back. As a result some may disable it

I think the suspension of the Sealion is good. Better than Xpeng G6. For the G6, when you go over the hump, the rear passengers will likely float up.

As for your second point, that’s regen braking. It converts your kinetic energy back to electricity. But the Sealion regen is low, when compared to Tesla’s one pedal drive. That push the fact that the car is heavier, consumption is worse off. This explains why it has bigger battery but mileage is similar to Xpeng and Tesla. But electricity is relatively cheap compared to petrol so you will still get savings, just not as much.

Because China cars are leading. BYD has a Yangwang series, their top range. It is very impressive. China leads EV car technology these days. Tesla is also made in China and the China version supposedly has better built than other factories

Model 3 has no setting to adjust regen and this made my passengers and myself want to puke during the test drive. The SA told me it's becos of the way I drive. Let's face it, if I have to drive a performance car like a p***y, then wth do i get the performance car for? This is the deal breaker for me to not choose tesla.

The new Y also has another mode which not one pedal but I can’t remember what it is called. This is introduced because the new Y regens on braking too. I tried both modes and both felt as smooth. None of my passengers said that the acceleration and deceleration were not smooth. Guess it just takes getting used to.

Having said this, my recommendation is for people not to buy a car more than 10% of your income (or at least household income). This way, car will amount to no more than 10% of income per year.
Means need to earn 2mil a year to buy 200k car?

Yup i agree that it jus takes getting used to but if it's not meant to be driven with sudden acceleration and deceleration, even with the century sprint of 1 sec is useless.

It took me just 2-3 times of practice to get used to it. Love at first sight on this feature. This is way easier than clutch control 😉.

Whichever EV model you drive, you should learn to control it than disable the feature. It takes little time to get used to it.

I like the most is no need to keep pressing on the brake to prevent the car from moving on Auto cars, very tiring affair on frequent start stop traffic condition.
