Been always the case for many years even before there is cardup. Before final tax notification, giro still deducted even if payment was made via other means.

Any idea how do we know final tax notification?
I had received a letter from IRAS indicating the GIRO installment plan for my tax (over 10mths), is this considered as final tax?

My tax deduction is 6th of month, by when i need to trigger Cardup payment to be in time for the interception of GIRO deduction?

Finalised bill is when you receive the Notice of Assessment (NOA). It happens any time between Apr to Sep. Then the GIRO deduction amount will be readjust taking consideration of your payments before the final bill.

I hope so but I don't think they will be so kind.

I discovered that last week after referring a friend to the service. I immediately highlighted to cardup support and asked if they had changed the terms and conditions without telling us. They promptly removed the $1k limit and informed me that they will be changing their terms and conditions. I told them this will definitely discourage some people from using their service. I have a feeling many people are making payment in tranches with just meeting the limit for $20 rebate off the admin fees, hence they are 'forcing' people to pay the admin fee by increasing the minimum payment to $1K and pay at least $6 in admin fee to them.

Not sure about others, but I will definitely not use them as often as before.

There is no free lunch in the world.

Grab had stopped giving promo codes after grabbing the Market share..
It's the same for CardUp, and in fact the same modus operandi for every other business in the world.

The min 1k requirement is only to get the referral bonus. I do not think that cardup is only viable coz of the referral bonus. Yes, it will make it harder to get the referral bonus, but ultimately, if i still gain from paying via cardup, i will continue to use it.

The more pressing issue is with the limited credit cards which are 'viable'. More banks are excluding cardup from their card rewards and even those accepting cardup are reducing the rewards for online transactions, eg, recently both BOC family n DBS livefresh lowered the cashback for online transactions.

Exactly. So if the bank cards offer even 3% rebate, you would only get an additional $4 per $1000 after deducting the admin charges. Anyway some cards still offer cashback for such transactions but the cashback % is lower than the admin charge, so not viable either. Lol.

If you are only using cards which give you a 3% cashback on online transactions, then after deducting the 2.6% admin fee, the gain you will get is a pittance. Then yes, in this case, you will have to rely on the referral bonus of $20 to make it 'worthwhile'.

However, if using cards which give more rewards, eg, BOC family @ 5% for online transactions, plus it also gives a higher % int for your savings account if you hit certain spending, then it is worthwhile for me to continue using cardup even without the $20 referral bonus.

yes plus most will have insurance premiums to pay (which can easily be a few hundred, or over a thousand monthly)

especially if the individual "don't need" these insurance premium payment to contribute to the monthly giro/bill payment, why not use it to fulfill the monthly spend on the credit card

Just wondering out loud. Instead of giving promo/referral codes with such hurdles, why don't Cardup reduce their fees? If even the 1.5% cashback cards can have some gain from using Cardup+fees, I think their user base will expand very rapidly and thus they will still be sustainable. Of course I don't know their real operating costs vs revenue so this is just a random thought.:s12:

I suppose Citibank air Miles card if used to pay income tax can earn me air mile?

Anyone used Citi PremierMiles and got the miles?

I noticed CitiPM got this clause:

3.3 In determining the amount of retail purchases for purposes of calculating the number of Citi Miles to be credited, annual cardmembership fees, funds transfers via Citibank Online using the Citi PremierMiles Visa Card as source of funds (for example, payments via Citibank Online or via any other channel or agent (such as a third party agent for payment of bills) whether for bill payments or otherwise), interest, late payment charges, GST, cash advances, income tax payment, purchases made on equal payment plan and other fees and charges shall not be taken into account. For the avoidance of doubt, the Bank is entitled, in its reasonable discretion, at any time and from time to time, to take into account or disregard any card transaction or charges or retail purchase in the calculation of Citi Miles to be credited or to otherwise vary the basis of calculation of Citi Miles.

This year income tax I tried Cardup for the first time. Charged to my Citi SMRT card but did not get the 3% cashback.

Citi SMRT also got similar clause:

22.2 Issuance of SMRT$ and SMRT Rewards Vouchers
(c) In determining the amount of retail purchases for purposes of calculation of SMRT$, refunded, disputed, unauthorized or fraudulent retail purchases and goods and services taxes will not be taken into account. For the avoidance of doubt, Equal Payment Plan transactions, cash advance, quick cash, balance transfer, payment of annual Card membership fees, bill payments/funds transfers using the Citibank SMRT Platinum Visa Card as source of funds (for example, funds transfers/payments via Citibank Online or via any other channel or agent (such as a third party agent for payment of bills) whether for bill payments or otherwise), interest, late payment fees, and any other form of service/miscellaneous fees shall also not be taken into account. Any SMRT$ earned from any of the above transactions will be reversed. We are entitled to, in our reasonable discretion, at any time and from time to time take into account any Transaction or charges or retail purchase in the calculation of SMRT$ or to otherwise vary the basis of calculation of SMRT$.

Does that mean CitiPM will not get miles on Cardup either?
