Since u r looking at the Onda, u may be interested in the following comparison:

Onda VI40 Elite Android 4.0 IPS vs Cube U9GT2 Tablet - Fight! | PRLog

The Cube seems to come out ahead for the 16gb ram, screen and battery but doesnt have hdmi out and costs US$50 more

Yes. I have considered the U9GT2 as well in the past. I don't care about the 16GB ram (there's 16GB version for Vi40E as well btw), The 10pt touch screens has slight advantage vs the 5pt, but I reckon the Vi40E had better screen contrast. Battery is one consideration, cost and hdmi is another.

But, my most concern is the CPU. Allwinner A10 claim to be 1.5Ghz, when it can only run stable on 1Ghz. The U9GT2 at 1.2Ghz has faster response. When a company lies about their products, it reflects bad on their products credibility and quality.

So, I may wait for a little while and see if the A10 chips are as good as they claim it to be. Anyway, it won't be shipped till early feb, So I may wait until mid Feb.

I think i am damn suay. My momo tablet's battery is defective and it cant start up.

Only way to start up the tablet is through a cable, power on and then unplug it. Even so, the tablet last only 15 mins despite charging for 5 hours.

Anyone knows where i can get the battery replaced?

better go back to the website and ask for a return...locally, not worth it.

After reading for a couple of weeks, I decided to get the Onda VI30 from SL because it's an 8" tablet in a 4:3 format. It uses the same A10 as the Novo 7A and has a resol of 1024X768; capacitive (but non-IPS screen).

It is not bad...when it works! At the shop, I tested the wifi and it was working fine. When I got back, the wifi refused to turn on and I had to do a factory reset which solved the prob. Since then, I have had the screen freeze a couple of times already and was forced to power on-off. Quite surprising since I am on 2.3 and not even on the beta 4.0.

Maybe regretting a bit or perhaps I am spoilt by my iPad and galaxy tab. I had bad experience with my SmartQ V5 before (the battery was awful and it was impossible to calibrate) but thought I would give it another try. Just praying I won't have to do another factory reset because it would mean having to re-download all the apps again!

Anyway, this tablet should keep me going until the iPad3 comes out! But I would not recommend it to anyone. Hopefully, the VI40 is better - for those eyeing that tablet.

Onda VI30 from SL as in ..... SLS ?

How much and Andriod 4.0 ?

yes, SLS.

pd $230 after bargaining from $260 - CH2 shop. Built-in 2.3. Android 4.0 beta firmware is available from Onda's website but as for other MIC tablets, there r still some bugs for eg no flash etc. After playing further, it's not bad - just that it tends to auto reboot now and then (my iPad does that too but only very infrequently). Hopefully this will be resolved in a future firmware upgrade. It may be due to certain apps that are not fully compatible

Is your new tablet the onda vi30 deluxe or just vi30? The onda vi30 runs on rk2918 and the deluxe is the one with a10. Do you have any tips on how to bargain with the sellers? :D

Onda has been confusing everyone by changing the chip but using the same model name. There r also too many models - VI30, VI30 Deluxe, VI30w etc. Mine just says VI30 but it has a front camera unlike the A10 on merimobiles.

U r right - the VI30 USED to hv the rockchip but that was subsequently changed - i believe now the company uses A10 on all the VI30 models. The A10 model also used to hv a 800 X 600 screen instead of 1024 X 768. Some websites r showing outdated info or they r selling old stock.

I found a way to check the chip as well as the screen resolution, memory etc of any android tablet. Just download this app called "Android System Information" and it will give u all the specs. Very useful when u hv many different models with diff specs n u r not sure if the seller is trying to pull a fast one.

On how to bargain - I guess u r born with it! There r better bargainers n there r worst bargainers than me. Some people will just pay whatever price they r quoted - others will bargain the whole day n wear out the seller! Forums like this help a lot because if someone else has already lowered the price for a particular item, u just need to say "..my friend just bought it at this price" or try even lower!

Thanks for the reply! Taobao selling the vi30 deluxe for 899rmb:
Processor: A10
Ram:ddr3 512MB
screen: 8" 1024*768
Front camera 1.3MP

Just to check, is this the same as yours? BTW, I saw a very bad review of the shop you bought from. Any other shops that sell tablets around the same price in sls? I have never bought anything from sls before, but then read about many mixed comments on shops in sls. Also scared that bargaining with them with agitate them...:(

Edit: the vi30 has bluetooth built in, the vi30 deluxe does not have bluetooth. If your onda has bluetooth, then it should be the vi30 without "deluxe".

yes, specs same as mine. mine does NOT have bluetooth.

to be safe, u may want to emai Taobao first and re-confirm the specs before u order since there r so many different models/variations esp the cpu and the screen resolution

if u r buying MIC tablets, i think all the shops in SLS r the same; just make sure to check that everything works before leaving the shop.

don't worry about bargaining - they r all very nice BEFORE u buy. once u have paid, their attitude changes!

Just a Quick Question. Does ONDA provide good online support ? And is there a big online community that support ONDA tablets ?

Onda is quick with firmware update. The community normally just wait for firmware updates. International have quite a few owners, but due to their many models, the numbers of each models are spreaded out.

i dont hv much experience with MIC tablets - my only other MIC tablet is a 4.3" SmartQ V5 Android 2.1 a few yrs ago when android tablets were still new - so i will leave comments on other tablets like Novo to the more experienced

as for the VI30 - generally it's not bad. There r some quirks which i noted earlier. The most irritating is that, whenever u leave the house and go out of range, the wifi will give an error message and u need to power-on-off or reset to get the wifi working again. Periodically, it may freeze but i guess this happens to most MIC tablets i presume.

It prob depends on yr type of usage. I use this and my iPad at home bec they dont hv 3G and i use my galaxy tab with 3G when i go out. So the wifi error wont happen in my case.

The biggest difference bet the VI30 and the Elf is the aspect ratio.

My main usage for this tablet is photo/video, web surfing and reading and for these purposes it works beautifully. The 8" size and especially the 4:3 aspect ratio is great for the web and reading. The 7" 16:9 tablets are only good for wide-screen videos but they r lousy for reading and photo/web browsing. The size of the video on my 8" is actually the same as on my 7" galaxy tab except that there are bars above n below the video which i dont mind.

I hv also compared the viewing angle with the Novo 8A and the Onda VI30 is MUCH better. So ultimately it depends on yr planned usage. If you surf and/or read a lot, get an 8" 4:3 tablet - u will be much happier.

All-in i m quite satisfied and may now be willing to try the VI40Elite next!

P.S I hv not tried the 4.0 beta - will wait for feedback first. Onda is not as popular for international as other brands like Novo so there is less support and discussion. For eg Slatedroid lumps it under "Other Cortex A8 Tablets"

Onda is a quite big Company in China, it is different from those cheap Android tablet makers which make the only product, it also make Computer Mainboard, Display Card, GPS devices.
It make PMP and teblet with all kind of specifications, and has its official firmware to download ( newest is ICS firmware for tablet)

Website: ONDA. " Only Chinese language"
