Hi guys, would you recommend to rent a car and to self drive in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai? I am planning to go end March/early May. Also thinking of 3d2n in Chiang Mai and 3d2n in Chiang Rai.

The plan is to fly into Chiang Rai, rent a car and tour around, then drive down to Chiang Mai, tour around and return car at Chiang Mai airport.

Wow, the journey from Chiang Rai back to Chiang Mai 3 hours plus. Currently still on the road...................

I think those who intend to drive better take note. It's quite rocky on certain parts of the road and sky dark at 6 pm here.
