Not if you have a StarSaver account. Just do this:

1. Open a StarSaver savings account with a minimum initial deposit of $1,000. (From a CIMB FastSaver account, if you wish.)

2. Order a free StarSaver ATM/debit card.

3. Transfer the funds out of your StarSaver account, if you wish. There's no minimum balance required after account opening.

Their ATM only located at the branch.

They are supposed to mail you the security token.

As long as one has followed the correct procedures nothing will go wrong.

Take note setting up CIMB FastSaver savings account requires about 2 weeks from start to finish. Yes a bit slow so be a little patient about it but it is really worth it as you can park excess liquid cash at 1% p.a. with no fall below fee and conditions.

I don’t recall having any email confirmation or anything after I fast in 1k. Just take it that your account is already activated. After a week or 2, u will receive the security token in your mail box. That’s all. If still really concern abt your account’s status, u can always call up to check.

Update: an hour after I posted this msg, I got a SMS with the activation code for setting up the Clicks iBanking. Today did the first log in and everything in place now

15/7 signed up, 15/7 FAST to new acc. , 21/7 get the activation code.

Yes. I have a FasterSaver and a FastSaver-i accounts as well as joint FastSaver accounts: each account entitled to 1% interest up to 50k...

No min. balance. You can leave $0 for Fastsaver or Starstaver. It wont auto-close.

If less than $15,000, then Cimb, as maxigain have a daily average of $15,000 to avoid the charges..

If more than $15,000.. place $15,000 in maxigain while the rest in cimb.. once maxigain gains 2 counters, the approximate interest earned would more slightly more than 1% (0.2 + 0.8*1 % sibor), current sibor rate is slightly above 1% iirc..

However do note that the lower balance of money in maxigain compared to previous month will cause a drop of counters (interests %), whereas cimb enjoys 1% fuss free till $50,000
