Hope coe drops further. My car left 2.5months to scrap and a dealer offer me a car left 12months to drive. Exactly same model but price 30% cheaper. I decided to take it up subject to view. If condition is reasonable. I will buy it.
Scarp my mark x buy another mark x.

The trending only tells one thing and that is times are bad.

During the good old days, LKY would be shouting aloud asking the people to tighten their belts when heading into difficult time.

Now, with the falling stock market and the sluggish property market and the uncertainties ahead especially with the downward trending of the Chinese Economy and the uncertainties surrounding the US interest rate, the worldwide atmosphere is pretty gloomy and thereby the people exercising extra care and prudence in their spendings.

Personally, I think this trending would be for quite a while to come.

It is downhill trent. Price should drop maybe $5000 every 3months. The longer you wait. The cheaper.

The drop in COE prices should be a happy moment for all car owners. We should celebrate. :)

Come on. That piece of paper is not worth that kind of money anyway. It is ridiculous.

I think is more correct to say, down 5k this quarter then up by 5k next quarter... else, y this yr coe price vs last yr coe price remain the same ??? At least in term of the car price... cause now got reduction in cevs rebate, so dealer also price the car higher by 5k also...

Ups again sianz

Aizai..... will come down again. Next round will see drop. Now is for New year delivery. What to do, new year coming around and followed by CNY. So will hang around there till end of the year.

Unlikely that it will fall below 50k by December due to this reason. January bid may see it scaling down a little.

Just curious, (just a wild thought for discussion, be open minded), would it be better if they don't go for the highest bid, but rather somewhere in between?

Forgot how it is, but think read before some very creative system using the result somewhere in between instead of the end, so as to make it much fairer or more rigid or something.

e.g. take the mean or median bid (either one depending on what end result one hope to achieve). Those closest to the mean or median bid, up till the quota is reach will get the coe.

See many advantages with such system.

For one, it will avoid those rich from abusing the system by relentlessly bidding higher and higher coe (making coe out of reach for those who really need a vehicle but don't have super deep pocket), cause the highest bid won't get the coe.

Secondly, it will give everyday normal people a fairer shot at getting a coe with their limited budget. Cause coe will not be base on highest bid, but maybe a much acceptable mean or median bid.

Thirdly it will avoid freak result like 1 dollar bid which result in lost of revenue for incumbent, or extreme high coe, which result in suffering for the normal people. By compromising in the middle, everyone win abit.

It will force everyone to be much more sensitive to each other needs/budget when determining their bid price. Takes into consideration everyone input, rather than the current one sided. Thus, a much more caring system. Those with better budget will tend toward a more moderate pricing in consideration of those with limited budget pulling the final price low. Limited budget one will not be able to sabo the result by pulling the pricing super low cause those with better budget will pull the final price high. Thus a sort of equilibrium is reached.

Think this will better able to stabilise the pricing also cause everyone will tend toward the ideal mean or median bid they expect, and not bid wildly or widely, resulting in huge swing or market instability somewhat perhaps.

By tweaking and find tuning the system more, this could make it abit harder for people to manipulated the system, since one may be able to use past results to guess the ideal bid, but won't really able to control cause won't know how much the spread and the highest and lowest bid, which could affect where the final bid result land at. Thus, its part chance and part skill, should make the process that very much more interesting.

First thing we have to do is to separate the COE from car price. Dealer should not get the COE on our behalf. CO"E" is the entitlement. So we should have COE on hand then out for shopping with car dealer.

Next is COE should not be part of car loan. Is a entitlement, not a product. So interest rate should be same as personal loan.

Advantage:

Now you are the real buyer. No such thing of salesman trying to sweet talk you the price may raise next week etc. They have to try very best to sell their product in order to use your COE.

Finally, it is only fair to double and more for family has multiple cars. Since this group or people is generally more affordable then other. Using register address is a good way to track.
With COE separated from car price, it is easy to implement by yearly COE price. When the family say drop from 2 car to 1. He/she can get the rebate after he sold the car (just like current housing system).
