Mr Lawrence Choo, 45, founding member of cycling enthusiast groups 10101010 and Faber X, suggested that the guideline for motorists to adhere to a minimum distance of 1.5m when passing cyclists on roads be passed into law, so that it can be enforced like the group cycling rules.

He added that drivers should learn that cyclists also have a right to be on the roads.

Mr Kiki Matthias Cheng, founder of cycling enthusiast group Riding Kakis (Singapore), said it may be more effective to influence cyclists to become role models who “walk the ground” and advocate safer cycling practices within their cycling groups.

The 52-year-old operations director added that this could help “activate” the cycling community in spreading good cycling practices, compared with a top-down approach through law enforcement.

Mr Khaw and Mr Ng both suggested building more dedicated cycling infrastructure, such as cycling lanes that allow road users to give cyclists the right of way.

Cant use it to commute more than 10km and bumpy like hell. Roads are still better for cycling.

you wan use those auntie bicycle then bo bian.. can only only go wet market buy grocery

anyway sg roads not built for cycling and to widen the roads cost alot of $

either you endanger your own life cycling there or keep quiet and follow law

Sorry, my 10km commute is in half an hour, and i cant do it on the PCN. My bicycle is my work vehicle. Driving need to be more expensive here to cut down the number of car using the roads here.

No amount of infrastructure can solve the problem if there are still cyclists out there with their self entitled mentality.

For example, there's already a long stretch of cycling lane at East Coast Park...but yet some cyclists rather choose to cycle on the SINGLE lane ECP service road and slowing down the traffic.

These cycling founders should advocate and push for 3rd party insurance for cyclists so that when things happen, motorist gets a bit of assurance for payment.

If wan good rideway, connect sg bicycle path properly with no kerbs, junctions or halfbake tracks. Like convert some extra lane to bicycle track or build some 2-3 viaduct to connect to those big parks connectors, so u can ride non stop without them hindering ur practice.

Gd rideways wil b east coast, old railway, punggol waterway.

On the road, if they ride in single file along the double yellow line, we all give way 1.5m even with signal right then left to overtake.

Dun ride like the whole lane is urs. We can give way but u nvr noe which ah siao will long u behind after a hard day of work.

Cyclist life is urs, dun waste ur parents effort bringing u up. If both respect each other on the road. All no issues 1.

Erm, think a proper cycling lane is part of the road. As mentioned earlier those so called cycle path is for leisure cycling only. The surface conditioning not good and alot of other users crisscrossing on it, how to have smooth cycling.

Those really into cycling one, think if given a choice will tend go on the road also. Only proper road then can call cycling lane. And think that's what many other places have been doing when want to integrate the increasing use of other vehicles into society, encouraging other vehicles use and discouraging motor vehicle use.

We have seen instances at the changi side, where a bicycle path was marked out on the road, but they still insist on riding on the last lane of the road.

Basically cyclists just want to do whatever they want, ride whereever they please la. Stop asking them for their opinions already.
