Wish to check if your singtel 3G/LTE usage is working fine in NEL Mrt.
Lately cannot connect at times even when the train stops at the stations.

Facing the same issue.
Surge from monthly usage of 3-5GB to 23GB (last month)!
I am speechless...

i am on the same boat.

M1 normal usage on 3G was within 2GB (even though i had 12GB data), after upgrade to 4G and iP5, data shot up to 25GB with same usage :/

Wats going on ?

I've switched off syncing of any kind of data and its still bad. within 2 days I use 2GB ?????

I started this post in May 13 when I used to b using not more than a GB monthly to suddenly hitting 3GB in 2 wks.

Spent much time w Singtel various staff n departments. Monitored closely usage for e next few weeks.

Now what I do is, switch back to 3G, only go on LTE if really find 3G slow. When home, I actually switch off 3G n use home wifi. Since then, back to within 1-2GB usage.

Crazy, isn't it?

That's a lot of data. Unless you are watching videos in HD quality dont think you can hit that kind of numbers. For example when youtube detects 'good quality' it automatically selects high quality video stream. They used to have a button but with the new app they removed it but still it automatically selects the best stream.
Other than that I can't think of any apps (like Photostream or other Google+ app which syncs photos or Dropbox) that take such a huge volume.

Just share my experience.

on 03 Oct 2013 to 04 Oct 2014 my single day data usage surge to 1.7GB (1.5GB data usage from 2am to 7am), my Samsung note 2 has personal hotspot on (shared 4G data network to my old Iphone4). Both Singtel data usage record and note2 data usage are same, which meant my note2 did consume total 4.5GB of data in this billing cycle. The portable hotspot alone consumed 3.25GB of data. This is unusual and alarming as Iphone apps may be sending out huge data when in WIFI/4G mode or my note2 hotspot has been hacked by someone. :s11:

Now, I have set my note2 data usage limit and align to my singtel billing cycle. I am not sure if Iphone can restrict the data usage if cannot then just don't on 3G/LTE whenever wifi connection is available.

Guys,
LTE/4G will sucks your data real fast. Just switch to 3G and use Wi-Fi when at home or hotspots. You can test it yourself by just watching 5 mins video on YouTube using 3G or LTE and see how fast your data is used up. Cheers..

Checked using singtel app and i also noted that the switch to lte uses more data. My assumption is that we are using more data coz facebook n other online stuffs loads way faster. So if you use like 10mins as a benchmark, you will tend to browse more with lte as compared to 3g since the latter will take longer to load. Not sure if anyone feels the same.

The reason why watching youtube can be more data consuming when you are on LTE is because youtube can 'detect' your device's connection bandwidth. If you are on wifi or LTE with a higher bandwidth it will load higher quality videos (if there are such versions), and naturally higher quality means more data.

Before the 3 telcos launch LTE last year, i heard all of ppl in us mentioned about surge of data usage. Then later i saw the news on reducing the cap from 12 to 2, i have the sense that the point telcos want to reduce is just becos they want to reap more from customer.

Last time, one of the cash generator is SMS, but now everyone is on whatsapp and VOIP, their revenue reduced, they are using data mobile to get and churn out more income for them. Do u realised those on corp plan have lesser discount and subsidize on phone also reduced.

I saw it, hence keep my 3G 12plan till ever. Help to cut down cost of ownership in this area. Currently, I am paying less than 30 dollar for 12G 3G plan, if my 2 years is up, likely pay only for 35 per month. Not going to chase after new rls phone, keeping simple and neat in life. That my plan.

I think for your case, the iphone 4 might have done iCloud backup when it was connected to your note2's hotspot. The tethering of iOS and android works differently such that iOS may think that android hotspot is a normal wifi connection and will therefore do back up, sync photo stream, update apps, etc

If you saw it and if you were using Singtel, you should have added 4G VAS which was free of charge last year, even if you did not have a 4G capable phone at that time. Then you get to enjoy 4G speeds if you buy a 4G phone later without contract and still have 12GB data. Some of us did.

i monitor my usage after reading this thread, I'm on StarHub btw. gonna warn my gf who is on Singtel, and to think I was angry with StarHub charging me for the first minute instead of seconds since may 2013, looks like it's nothing compared to what you guys are going through. where are our rights?!

Starhub did mentioned that they are going to charge first minute in the news...like singtel

Now only m1 is per second billing.
Looking forward, I might use of the 12G to deploy VOIP with my families and close friends for cutting down the amount of money paying to telcos...
