Anw. Since i worked at ibp i would drop by and see. Cause i remember that that store over there belongs directly from creative itself.

I know about this cuz last time I went there to check out their
headphone but they mention it was closed.
Maybe due to renovation or so.

Read on head-fi that that wasnt that good.. creative's true gamign card was the x-fi.. and for some, zxr has taken over its spot..

X-fi is a range...X-fi xtremeaudio, X-fi Xtremegamer, X-fi titanium HD... so i dun understand your part that say creative true gaming card was the X-fi...

I meant was the x-fi titanium HD was very good for gaming, and some say that the ZxR surpasses it.. but as for the other range of products, like the recon3D, it does not live up to expectations.

So, my choices now would be x-fi titanium, ZxR or the STX.. unless i find somthing else...

Actually in all and what ive learn during my days in creative is that X-fi is actually a dac crystallizers. It is a dac that tries to recover audio loss during conversion. But nothing much can be done when any one of us rip an audio cd at 320kbps.

X-fi was actually impemented on their mp3 players. After awhile they decide to inplement it on sound blasters for people whom love music a lot. Xfi can be used in movies also. But however whatever is encoded in the dvd like dhoby surround or dts, there isnt much can be done to recover the loss in movie audio quality. Unless you are watching streaming movies or vcds.

Basically most of the xfi cards are good for music listeners. But of cause one could venture out buy using their own fav op amps to alter the sound that is coming out from the sound blaster itself.

What does the daughter board of the ZxR do? Since there is no PCie slot, i presume it will be fitted onto the case PCI slots, and connected to the parent board?

lol.. still waiting for either x-fi titanium hd or zxr to reach low points... btw, the zxr is for gaming? the same goes for x-fi as well? and the stx is more for music?

actually i think its quite balanced for both or maybe more for music since i didn't play much fps these days.

STX also not bad but seems quite troublesome if you want a 5.1 setup. have to use digital out and get a amp separately. That's why stx better for music i guess.

I didn't use the daughter board. dun nid to connect it for the card to work. Think it's more for recording purpose bah.

Then u shd just get a Z instead. what bad reviews are there about the ACM? quite like it so far.

A lot says it degrades the sound as compared to using directly from the soundcard ports... FYI, they were using headphones...

The Z uses normal capacitors whereas the Zx, ZxR uses better... but if compare Z with x-fi titanum hd, whats your verdict?

ic...i didn't use directly from the soundcard yet cause straight away plug into ACM liao...maybe will try it some day. I believe the ACM is just an extension with no processing done in it, so won't affect the sound quality bah.

Can't comment on ti HD vs Z cause i didn't use the ti HD before..

And couple years later, when all those people who junked their once S$199 or S$299 sound card for S$5 because they cannot find the new drivers. I bought from garage & use it in linux which runs some open source drivers perfectly... that's really for crying out loud.

Partly because Creative didn't bother to have different drivers for linux. The same chips were used in as many versions of cards as I can remember... it was good fun for me.

I still remember the Audigy debacle, where they disabled features going from WinXP to Vista, claiming that the card couldn't support. Turns out it was disabled in drivers, and if you hacked the drivers, you can enable X-Fi-like features on the Audigy. The rumour was the features in question were licensed to XP only, and Creative didn't want to relicense them for Vista.

This really turned me off because I had 2 Audigy cards at the time.

Aiya.....why debate on drivers support? happy can already. Usually those negative feed backs are on their products 10 years ago.....

at least creative hardware is lasting? since ppl are still using it for more than 5 years? My xonar dx died after 3years+....got good driver support also no use....
