So we should stick to the 2k limit per statement period or do they do it by the calendar month?

Anyone know? A friend reported elsewhere that the 2k internet spend limit for max points is according to calendar month and not statement period. If this is the case then it's very important to take notice of this for future reference.

I used to be with SPG for many years and if all it takes is one stay with a MC then I might as well do it again, especially if it's a prepaid rate that I can pay online to get max points.

aster1, does pre-paid rate at SPG hotels using Woman's Card earn 10x points? I tried it at IHG before and it failed.

It should be for calendar month...

I don't think it does. I have tried it with Accor, Hilton and Hyatt and none of them garnered 10x points.

Hotels are a problem because many don't actually carry out payments as an internet transaction. Instead they hold on to your details and sometimes charge you manually. Or even on non-cancellation rates they won't actually bill you until you've checked in/out.

Expedia should be ok on bookings that are fully prepaid as they will go ahead and collect the money straight away.

sorry but can elaborate why lounge access is the best perk to receive?

Lounge access is usually given to higher tier rooms that cost a lot more than your regular "deluxe" type room. Or you have to pay heaps to add this benefit to a regular room if the hotel offers paid lounge access.

The upside is that you usually get 2 hrs (at Swissotel it's 6-8pm) in the evening where all alcoholic drinks (wines, beers, spirits), other drinks and a selection of food is free. So basically open bar for 2 hours. :)

Other perks for Swissotel's mid-tier are free breakfast and free internet regardless or what room/offer you book.

Of course if two hours of free drinks is not your type of thing then maybe the lounge access isn't that important for you, just like free internet might not be of use to someone who won't be using it.

I actually use the lounge more for free food and afternoon canapes, not so much for the alcohol :o

Yes, it does, everything via vbox does, tried it already. Probably all merchants that requires the Mastercard SecureCode (sms) will earn 10x.

Wow, even the IRAS Tax payments qualify for 10x too? Then we don't have to go to the AXS machine anymore to pay via DBS credit card.

Provided Vbox allows Tax payment via CC. Some billing organisations on Vbox only allow GIRO / Nets.

The points are only valid for a year, right? I was initially thinking of applying for this to combo with my Altitude (which I currently use mainly for tax and utilities) but if I have to consciously monitor the rewards points every year I'm not sure if it's going to be worthwhile, esp since DBS isn't my primary card to begin with.

Yes, valid for 1 year only. But if redeem to miles then its ok because miles have another 3 years validity which is a long time for you to redeem. No need to monitor, dbs will remind you when its going to expire.

Any other cards out there that will give me 4 miles/$ for all internet spend (especially travel) up to the first $4k at least?

I take it the UOB Lady's card isn't competitive in this regard?

For travel, no.

UOB Lady's card is not competitive where rewards are concerned. You can earn 2miles/$ on overseas spend, but there are a whole bunch of cards offering that.
