BACKUP AND RECOVERY

1. Backup your whole drive to external hard disk

2. Remove original hard disk

3. Replace with new hard disk

4. Bootup Rescue CD (run Acronis in Linux)

5. Restore Image from external hard disk to new hard disk

6. Reboot and you're done

Dennis,

Test the Rescue CD and make sure you can "see" your external hard disk.

This is important because some external hard disk enclosure are not supported (lack of driver in Linux)

Full version includes support of USB, PC Card (formerly PCMCIA) and SCSI interfaces along with the storage devices connected via them, and therefore is highly recommended.

If i try to clone the harddisk. Does that mean after i clone the harddisk, i just remove my old harddisk and put the new one in will do. And everything will be the same as the old harddisk. My Factory restore function will still be there. I don have to reinstall any driver.

For the new harddisk, how can it be attach to my lappy while the old harddisk it still there?

XPS1210.
anyway, just to share my experience using this laptop for 2 weeks. imo, the build quality is not as good as other brand like sony, fujitsu, or IBM. of course the price/performance value wins :) how bout other model? mine like the lcd plastic is like cheap plastic that can squeak if you press it..... overall is ok only.
Hahah Definitely. Actually M1210 looks the best among all the Dell lappy already but open up u still feel cheap inside lol. But its performance/price and service support that draws me to Dell. I dun need their service so far but i paid for 3 years so i better do something after 1 year, dun waste it hehe.

Anyone tried running C&C 3 using XPS1210. with GForce 7400?
Are you using Window XP or Vista?
Is C&C 3 very laggy?

I'm need a small laptop (12"-13") and a fan of C&C game, How?

Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!
Yeah it works fine but make sure u put the lappy at max performance else it will be pretty laggy. I'm using Vista and no problems with it.

Clone Hard Disk

The normal procedure would be to install your new drive in external casing and then, using the Rescue CD that you created using Acronis, to clone your old drive to the new drive, choosing to automatically expand the existing partition(s) to fill the new drive.

Once the cloning is completed, your computer will want to reboot. Power down, before it reboots. Remove the source drive and install the target drive as Master, re-plug and boot up.

I just had a dry run on the Trial Version; you should be able to start the cloning process from Windows.

If the jumper of your new hard disk is already set to Master, just replace the old hard disk with the new one after cloning.

Diavonex. Thank

Thank, I manage to get the dell personal down with a new harddisk. He don know much about this software and don have a USB port for the new harddisk, so which mean i cannot do the clone way. Therefore, what i do is i backup the old harddisk on my portable external harddisk then make myself a system restore CD.

Next switch off and remove the old harddisk and replace it with the new harddisk which he brought. After that, power up and go into bios and settle to boot from cd and put in my acronis rescus CD. From the install the full version of acronis. On my back up side, it conside of 3 portion but just settle the 1st portion and verfity it before restore.

It take about 20 min and the restore was complete. After complete, i just the factory restore function again. It work. I am very happy about acronis. It just make my day.

What i still not very happy is the harddisk, althought it a bit better. BUt still, there is a bit of noise coming from the harddisk in a quiet envirnment. Can i ask is it possible or recommendation any harddisk that is very quiet and have no or very little noise in a very quiet envirnment esspecially when we are working in a quiet room at night. Thank.

Once again. Thank you, Diavonex for the trouble. You do help me out a lot. Can i know, where u buy yr acronis software and for how much? Thinking of install it for all my 3 set of pc. Is it possble to install for 3 system using one software?

Thank.

I'm so happy that you've Restore your Image successfully; well done!

To boot from CD/DVD ROM, you don't have to go to the BIOS; you can hit F12 (during reboot) and select where you want to boot from.

If you hard disk is noisy, you can go to your BIOS to adjust you hard disk acoustic to quiet.
