Finally Dell has changed the configuration for their 640m series from today ( 03/04/07)

The high end version consists of the following

CPU :C2d 1.83 Ghz
Ram : 2 * 1GB RAM ie 2 GB RAM !!
HDD : 80 GB (SATA)
Warranty : 3 yrs collect and return

Price : $1849 ( include free delievery & GST)

Going by Dell's promotion....next week will be same system, but HDD will change to 120GB (SATA) but delievery charge of ~ $78 is applicable.

as for the lower end version, the CPU is now C2D 1.73 Ghz instead of C2D 1.66 Ghz but ram remains at 2 * 512 MB .

Did you Restore the complete drive or just the hidden partition?

I manage to restore just like the same when i get it out of the box. Which mean restore everything complete.

acturally, try a second thought of using window xp then window vista. or else, even u have 2 gb ram like me,,u can't see the difference. Next,, for dual core2,,even if it 1.66. or 1.73 or 1.83...don make a difference unless u upgrade to 2. Next is the harddisk,,,,cos after they take away 10gb for recovery and 5 to 10 to direct media,,you only left with 100gb..so if can go for 160 gb...try to go for it.

Once you have successfully restore from the Image, you can delete the Recovery partition and merge it with your other partition.

Suggest you burn your Backup Image onto DVD for added insurance.

~1year xps premier w/ complete cover
if i want to extend my warranty, which one it belong? inspiron or what? i cannot see any xps laptop.
then another question, my laptop run quite slow with vista. when test it, the base score is 3.3.

BTW, do u mean the CTRL-F11 restore function will be left intact even if i upgraded to a bigger hard disk? Let say after the CTRL-F11 restore is done, only the original dell aka smaller hard disk size is visble to windows xp even though u r using the new hard disk? Not 100% of the new hard disk size will be visible to windows xp?

I am currently using acronis true image 9. According to your opinion, do u think the steps to backup & recover the hard disk will be similar to version 10? Do u think using dvd media to backup & recover is a good idea?

The hidden partition will only work if you Backup the whole hard disk because the partition are inter-link. You can see all partition with PartitionMagic.

Yes. Ctrl+F11 will still work if you Restore to a larger hard disk. Acronis 10 will increase the size of all partitions proportionately.

Acronis 10 have better hardware support.

Thanks for your prompt reply! Among these 2 imaging products(GHOST & ACRONIS), which do u think is better in term of reliability & support? Why using dvd for backup & recovery is a bad idea?

Acronis is more user friendly; Ghost currently cannot be used with Windows Vista.

DVD backup/recovery is not so good because:

1. It's slowwwww

2. If Image is bigger than 4GB, you'll have to span to another DVD

3. You cannot verify/mount Image if it's span over to another DVD.

Hahah Definitely. Actually M1210 looks the best among all the Dell lappy already but open up u still feel cheap inside lol. But its performance/price and service support that draws me to Dell. I dun need their service so far but i paid for 3 years so i better do something after 1 year, dun waste it hehe.

BLUE SCREEN suddenly

facing this prob for straight 2 days and hope i'm not jumping to any fast conclusion.

I kena "blue screen" while using my dell inspiron 510m, the lappy just pop this "blue screen" with error message read like this ""If this is first time you encountered...." something like this ..

Not sure if id due to hardware config or whatsoever but having kena twice on 2 straight days make me worriy.. any advises?? thanks

worth to send to Dell for repair after warranty expired??

.. as my warranty has come to an end , was wondering if it's more economical to send to Dell or some outside shop for lappy repair?? thanks
