Hmmm..that's interesting 'cos the service manager told me that they've no stock for the LCD screen for the Inspiron as well and I ordered mine (but a XPS) on 09 July. The earliest they now trying to commit is Aug. Well, this makes it frustrating.

The service manager told me that they did gave my suggestion to their procurement/shippment department but so far, no luck. There must be something going on...I wish more people bug and pressure them...haha

Most likely our m1330 will reach us in Aug. People in the US are receiving theirs already.
Though the configuration matters, if you have non-standard parts, it may take longer...

I just received email from Dell that my Inspiron 1420 is expected to be ship out on 27-Jul-07. Hope its not goin to be delay. Heard that USA and Canada side shipment is delayed.

u can check the status by clicking on your "order" number.. but usually it only served as a rough guide.

Yes, but it unreliable. My status show 27 July but in actual fact, I was told it's going to be 10 Sept or late Aug. Dell will change this estimated delivery date on the day of delivery when they cannot delivery. That's one reason why I'm so mad about them.

Everyone is mad about them. I placed my order in June!!! And they say that estimate is mid August deliver. Delayed again and again from jul 17 to mid Aug! Thats more than 1.5 months!!! :s27:

I see everyone's post that delivery times are pushed behind and I'm worried. I placed my order on 23 July, was told that it will be ready sometime next week and they will contact me early next week to inform me of the exact date. Is that too good to be true?

What dell model did you order?
If it is the m1330, then it is too good to be true.

has anyone reformat or partition their 1420 ?
is there a need to make a copy of those items in the recovery (6.0 GB).

btw the last time I did a partition was back in Win98 era...is it easier with vista ?

thx.

Suggest you make a complete backup of your HDD to an external drive before you mess with your 1420.

You can use the trial version of Acronis 10.

Don't forget to make the Rescue CD also.

This will allow you to recover if you mess things up.

The Dell notebook usually have 3 hidden partitions (EISA partition, MediaDirect and Recovery partition)

If you start adding/removing partition, there's a good chance that the notebook will not bootup or the Recovery partition will not work afterwards.

Use Disk Management to see the hidden partitions.

hi all experts out there,

i have been camping at this thread since the day i scouting for a notebook till finally ordered a 1520 and really admire your knowledges and willingness to share.

As i will be receiving my 1520 tomorrow, and since i am new to window notebook (i am using powerbook G4 currently), may i seek your advise on things to look out for. for example:

1, check all items delivered as per invoice
2, how to ensure all in good condition like any dead pixel, the right specifications.....etc
3, what to back up and the correct procedure. (i have read about backing up using Acronis10), mind telling me its purposes.
.
.
.
.Any recommend links to read up...to learn more about PC
.etc.......................

sorry if i am asking too much but please pardon my "PC illiteracy", appreciate your patience to elaborate and guidiances during this transition period. thanks!

Cheers!

1. Check all items against Packing List from Dell.

2. Upack every thing and start enjoying your Inspiron; keep your adaptor ON for at least 12 to 15 hours for the first time.

3. If you mess up the C: drive, reboot hit Ctrl+F11 when blue bar appear to restore to Factory Default.

Note: Do not format, create or delete any partition until you know what the hell is going on.
