My next inspiron 1420

Hi all,

It's been so long that I last posted in HWZ ...

Will be getting my 1420 next week ... Anyone with problem with this laptop? Currently still using my Inspiron 600m.

my dell lappy dell inspiron 700m has a 256 ram on it..
i wan to upgrade it but dun noe which kind of ram it nid..
can anyone help?

I received mine this evening, now feeling very upset and cheated. 2 rows of keypad not working (the QWER and ZXCV row). I can't even hit "ENTER" key and one side of "SHIFT" key works the other doesn't. I can't believe Dell's QC is so poor and I have to call service centre 1 day after getting my NEW notebook.

Just an update.

Dell engineer has replaced the keyboard and it is working fine now. I'm pretty satisfied with the service and now enjoying my notebook.

Overall feel after using almost 2 days:
- I like the keyboard, considered full-sized? (sorry Radeon)
- Screen feels a little reflective, not sure due to True life
- Notebook is silent, even when used late at night
- Feels a little hot where the heatsink is
- I've Vista Home basic installed. So far no major complaints, though I've been using Win2k.

I asked about the extended warranty and was advised that I should get one and I could do it nearer to expiry date. So I have closed to 1 year to decide

There's no warranty stickers; Dell's manual even teach you how to add RAM, change hard disk, change internal battery, replace CD/DVD-ROM etc.

Dell's technical support is 2nd to none.

however, have got a problem. i seemed to need to 'add' my bluetooth mouse everytime i turn on the notebook. even if it's put to sleep mode, when it 'wakes' up, need to add the bluetooth mouse again.

Have you installed the software first?
Dell should have given you a software for that bluetooth mouse.

Installed that first and turn off your bluetooth devices first.
After reboot then go to add your bluetooth device.

Does anyone know if Inspiron 1420 come default with "Flash Cache Module (FCM)"? Else, where can we get it?

Also, any idea what is the price of 2GB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM? I am looking to buy 2 pcs to max up 4GB memory.

There's also no stickers on desktop.

There's also instructions in the manual showing you how to open casing to add RAM, hard disk and other hardware.

However you must check if your power supply can take the additional load.

You may be able to "squeeze" a carrying case from Dell.

I got this carry case the last time for my friend when she bought the 17" from Dell.

How about 65W AC adapter?

If a 90W AC adapter is hot, the 65W will be worst.

If you're using a 9 cell battery, you should go for the 90W.

Example: A car with a bigger engine will take last effort to move the car. As such a 90W will charge faster than a 65W.
