haha go ahead lahs software side rarely voids warranty. my sister's latitude is running on another OS too, and last week when she sent for repairs, the warranty was still accepted. i heard there's some issues with the sound drivers so you must find your own after you go to xp though it's should be common so it shouldn't be a problem finding it

hey all, my warranty for my 3 yr old 700m just ran out, and i've been fretting over whether to extend it or not. its another 300 bucks for 2 years.

on one hand, i'm quite impressed by dell's warranty policy, and their positive attitude which stood out when i had several components replaced over the last three years.

on the other hand, 300 for another 2 years seems on the high side, and i'm unsure if i will be upgrading anytime soon. i'm hooked on the m1530, hehe.

any suggestions for me, people? would appreciate some input =)

Get the M1530, i just love that feel and the build of it.

what is the exact date? i bought mine at the IT show for $2399 on 9th march, but collected it only on 15th march. so does mine come with a remote control or not?

btw my laptop recently began to emit this high-pitched noise which sounds like the mosquito ringtone but at a lower frequency and volume. when i put my ears near the headphones jack i can hear it very clearly. also, i find that this is a bit dizzy-inducing, should i call up dell on this matter?

If IT show, then definitely not with remote control. IT show and models sold before that do not include the remote control. As I shared, for some random reason, Dell decided to include a remote control for batches after the IT show/past stocks. Meaning those stock which were in Courts Before the IT show do not have remote control. IT show models do not have remote control either. Only current batch of Courts stocks have.

ok, so my dell, which doesnt come with a hotkey for me to press in order to off the lights of the screen. my screen cannot be turned off using the ways that diavonex had pointed out, by going thru control panel > power options, becuase the computer is executing tasks, and the screen will be left through the night. i am looking for some freewares that can 'off' the lights of the screen. i have tried to search but unable to find any freewares/opensource around. if anyone has any software or advices, please do reply. thanks!

User Profile cannot be loaded

Hi folks,

Am new to the Dell User Group, have been using the Inspiron 6400 for more
than eight months already without any problem at start up.

A few days ago got this message at start up "The user Profile Service service
failed the logon. User Profile cannot be loaded."

Tried many times with my usual password and making sure the Caps Lock is
not enabled. I have not changed the password at all since the day I bought
the notebook. Am using Vista Business with 2GB Ram and bought the notebook
at one the IT fair at Suntec City. What possibility could have gone wrong with it?

i went to visit Courts @ jurong point also cant find xps m1530
only saw 1330.....wat a looker!

wats the difference bewteen ordering from dell and buying straight off from courts??
i visited the dell website the price is a bit lower than wat courts is offering(for dell XPS M1330)....however if u buy @ courts there's more freebies.

Try Safe Mode followed by System Restore.

How do I go into Safe Mode and System Restore in Window Vista Business.
On the Owner's manual it says press F12 to start the Dell Diagnostics from the Hard Drive.

There is no mention of Safe Mode in the Owner's manual. Each time it comes to the
typing of the password, the message appears again and again. Is there a way to reset
the password or to by pass it? Thanks in advance for any help rendered in solving the
issue.
