Hey, would you be interested in a Asus A8SC brand new laptop. I just got it 2days ago and i realised that i cannot afford to own it. So have to let it go cheap. Its a T7100 1.8mhz santa rosa platform with 2gb of ram, 160gb Hdd, webcam, 14.1" screen, Vista home and comes with the usual carry case and mouse. 2yr international warrenty so no problem about getting it service in australia or anywhere else you go.

Just wondering in case you are still thinking about getting the dell before you leave for aust. I want to let it go asap cause i cant afford to hold onto it. My mum pissed at me like crazy. Bought it for 2.2k. THinking of letting it go at 1900. Do let me know ok? you can contact me at 9*8*3*7*8*8*0*7 or email me at kelvinlim762002 yahoo.com.sg thanks

Just got my Inspiron 640m notebook yesterday, but some how find that Vista is sucking up the memory too much. So i am thinking of upgrading my ram. I have 2 questions here, since i only want to upgrade one of my 512mb ram to 1GB, cos to save the trouble to remove the keyboard to change the ram.

1) Will my laptop be able to support 1.5gb of ram?
2) If i slot my 1gb ram to slot B and my slot A remain as 512mb, will the total memory be still 1.5gb?

I dun think so
Vista needs more than 1Gb
1.5Gb should be ok liao
bootup alone already 800+MB liao
I dun know how those laptops can survive that come default with only 512MB, esp. those vista home basic and prem ones :o

If I am not wrong, Vista Home Basic minimum RAM requirement is 512MB, that is because it does not have the Aero feature.

If select Vista Home Premium, best is more than 1GB, and as most forumers in HWZ pointed out, the more the merrier!

You could also get the 640m, it is also a 14.1" laptop and much cheaper.
And you can configure with Win XP.

just checking

Okay......its really a dumb incident......

I've dropped my Dell Inspiron 6400 below knee level.

Out casing im not too worried, but the thing is that i was ripping a music CD while the accident happened.

Is there a way to check for Hard disk errors?

Will the Audio CD be scratched "internally" during the copying process?

please shed some information if any sages could

thanks..

Both are integrated graphic anyway... and I think the GMA 950 in the Dell 640m should be able to play most of the online games.

Gamers using 640m may want to comment on this.

Aiyo... so careless. But just to share my experience....
I did drop one of my laptops, a HP NX6110, from table top level.
Err... the laptop until now still has not give my sis-in-law (gave it to her when I bought the Dell 640m) any problems.

Anyway, got problems can call Dell service centre if still under warranty.

Haha....although i've gotten a 3 year warrenty coverage......i wish i would not be using it too soon:s22:

My Dell 640m has not given me any problems since I got it beginning of this year.

The new M1330 look nice and I would said that Dell's designer has finally awakened from their slumber.

I assumed you are using Win XP. You can use the chkdsk function to check for and epair problems related to bad sectors, lost clusters, cross-linked files, and directory errors.

Here the steps;

Running from the command prompt:

1.Click Start, and then Run.
2.In Open, type cmd, and then press ENTER.
3.Use one of the following procedures:
•To run Chkdsk in read-only mode, at the command prompt, type chkdsk, and then press ENTER.
•To repair errors without scanning the volume for bad sectors, at the command prompt, type chkdsk volume:/f, and then press ENTER.
Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message: Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)
Type Y, and then press ENTER to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.
•To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information, at the command prompt, type chkdsk volume:/r, and then press ENTER.
To run from Windows:

1.Double-click My Computer, and then right-click the hard disk that you want to check.
2.Click Properties, and then click Tools.
3.Under Error-checking, click Check Now. A dialog box that shows the Check disk options is displayed,
4.Use one of the following procedures:
•To run Chkdsk in read-only mode, click Start.
•To repair errors without scanning the volume for bad sectors, select the Automatically fix file system errors check box, and then click Start.
•To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start.
Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message: The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?
Click Yes to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.
