I have a problem here. Is there anyone try to do dual boot on Vista and Xp. Because i just got my vostro 1400 and wish to dual boot.

IF you have a 1420 with that specs and an XPS 1330 with the same specs, what's the difference now? is it the same feature-wise? obviously the xps would stil be lighter/thinner right?
is that all there is to it for the xps?

also, is the 1420 screen LED display like the xps? and can they both be reformatted/downgraded to XP? availability of drivers,etc?

New Dell Inspiron Owners,

What is the DVD burner optical drive that comes with your laptop 14xx,15xx,17xx?

Issit "PBDS DVD+-RW DS-8W1P"?

Do you face dvd media issues when burning DVD movie with this DS-8W1P drive?

Have tried burning several DVDs movie with Nero, ImgBurn ... No error detected during burn process. But when playing on DVD player, always after playing for an 1hr plus, the screen will freezed. it's unable to read the DVD.

Tried using WinDVD on laptop and performed a 20X fast forward to check, indeed, there are problem reading the disk at about 1hr period later.

Tried with Verbatim DVD-R media and TDK DVD-R media. Same problems faced. Tried burning with slower speed of 4X. Also get the same result media when playing after 1hr plus.

Tried goggling on this drive and found a lot of issue with this drive.

Anyone got firmware update for this drive?

Okay.....finally made the guts to open up the whole of my inspiron 6400

Here are some images :




Surprisingly the optical drive and hdd are real easy to remove



Anyways.......i've still got more, just showing (abit propaganda here lol) that the person who designed Dell laptops are really genius.......its really easy to maintain and clean parts from this particular model...




Oh yea....this part i've almost bend and break it.....but found out was a unscrewed screw......I've was really....scare siol






Anyways....anyone else did similar stunt as well ?

To replace the CD/DVD burner, just remove this screw and pull burner out.

You should remove the battery before working on your laptop.

This will minimise the chance of a short circuit.

but i should say its really worth the panic and effort..... the speakers damn....






If i didnt open the thing sooner....the dust is really gona cache......lol......

But really, the design of the laptop and how each parts is assembled really makes it a hell of a laptop

I did the same thing to my M1210, Open up the sink to wash the fins and then reapply thermal paste

If you need the laptop just go and get it; no point waiting. There's always a "better" deal every day.

For me I'd only really need it in August next year. Just that I'd like to have it now la (to replace my ailing desktop). But is not a must yet la. And that's why can afford to wait if it'll make a difference.

first im sorry for being honest

My view still stands


If you've got money to spare, please splurge on a mid-high tier laptop
meaning
-2 GB RAM or more
-dedicated gfx card (if cash is tight in somewhat way, at least lowest dedicated)
-3 year coverage warranty ( Accidents DO happen, its just the matter of when.
so when it happens dont cry foul for Dell support team)


More money, get better stuff. don't worry about the word "Latest".... such term in technology doesn't really exist, esp true in sg.

The other issues, would be weight and screen ratio. That you must have a clear view, as mention take a nice walk down city hall at the Dell shop.

If money IS an issue, then just get the cheapest. Thats there is to it




Now side problem in this Dell thread,

I hope certain people would wise up. Its not about asking this or that. =(not against PandaCat)= But rather how non constructive commments slowly come in this thread.
E.g This XXXXX is cheaper......that XXXX model cannot make it. blah blah blah.....

Please if you do not own a dell, dont comment
IF you hate it after the purchase, you just didn't look into details when deciding on the laptop.

Like wise, we Dell user group are quite confined to just within here. We might suggest buying dell due to the fact we ARE happy AND satissfied with our purchase


Mostly, Diav or Addict or some wiser ones would love to answer any daily problems one might encouter. But this again, is just for troubleshooting, not for comparsion charts
