Upgrade of RAM

Hi, I intend to get a Dell XPS M1530 and I would like to upgrade its current RAM of 2GB. However, I can't decide whether to get the (a) 2GB + 1GB or (b) 2 X 2GB one... Which would be more worth it, since I'll be running a 32-bit OS...

I've read up on various forums and it seems that (b) would result in 3.2GB - 3.5GB of RAM after allocation to various memory address space, but it would run in dual channel. What would be the nett RAM of (a) after allocation and is it correct to say that it will run in single channel only?

Besides this, anyone knows what brand of RAM the XPS 1530 uses? Must the brand of RAM that I'm buying be the same, or it just have to be a PC 5300 667MHz one?

[PS. Are both RAM slots for XPS 1530 at the back or 1 of them is underneath the keyboard? & Is it possible to get the store to fix the RAM for me, before I buy it (ie. at SLS)?]

Hope to get some expert advice here!

Thanks and cheerios!

Guess you don't have much choice. You may want to call Dell Malaysia and check if they can bring it in for you.

Hey,

I am getting a Dell XPS1730 and Im wondering whether the dual 256MB Geforce 8700M GT [Total 512MB] can be replaced with a dual 512MB Geforce Go 8700M GT [Total 1024MB] manually, because the highest the XPS configuration can go is a total of 512MB vram. Would the SLi hardware need to be upgraded also? I wish the Dell people would design the XPS to oversucceed their Alienware Area-51 specs. [Darn Graphics Cards difference is the only thing dragging the Dell down.]

by adding a wwan card on my m1330 and call the ISP to provide 3G service, i can surf anywhere without having to worry if i can find a wireless network outlet like mac donald in singapore? if i travel to china and indonesia, i can surf net too?

how good is the connection and where to get wwan card for my m1330?
what is the procedures i need to take to make everything work?

i am really confused...

You can get thru dell 3rd party. The brand is Sierra-Wireless. Works with all the ISP.

For those who are interested. I have just receive my Dell 5520 Mobile Boardband mini-card. Just in time for X'Mas fun.

Check out the photos here.

Happy holiday and a Merry Christmas.

Yes is a wwlan card. The sim is slot at the back of my notebook where the battery is. It fixs into the pci express card mini slot. It cost me US$199 excluding services and delivery charges. DELL do not accept credit card issue outside US. I brought it via VPOST.
