Did anyone address the elephant in the room so far? What will happen to local retail with RTS?

Maybe we need to recall about SG Government pushing so hard for HSR systems between SG to KL. What were the objectives and motives for SG Government?

"The Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) project is crucial for Singapore as it offers numerous benefits, including faster and more convenient travel, economic growth, and increased regional connectivity. The HSR promises a significant reduction in travel time between the two cities, potentially boosting tourism, business opportunities, and cultural exchange. Additionally, the project could contribute to the development of a stronger regional economy by fostering collaboration and attracting investment."

KL-Singapore high-speed rail briefing attracts hundreds of potential participants

UPDATED Nov 21, 2024, 11:22 AM

PUTRAJAYA – The briefing for the Request for Information (RFI) exercise for the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore high-speed rail (HSR) project has received overwhelming response from representatives from local and international companies, along with a handful of foreign missions.

The Star understands that around 700 attendees were at the briefing hosted by MyHSR Corporation at the Finance Ministry on Thursday afternoon.

The briefing provided an overview of the RFI process, including the timeline for local and international firms and consortia to submit concept proposals for the bilateral project based on a public-private partnership model.

Johor identifies 3 possible LRT lines in Johor Bahru that complement JB-S’pore RTS Link

UPDATED Nov 12, 2024, 12:39 PM

ISKANDAR PUTERI - Johor has identified three possible light rail transit (LRT) lines that stretch for 30km in and around Johor Bahru.

State works, transportation and infrastructure committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh noted that a development study had been previously conducted by the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) and Johor Public Transport Corporation (PAJ).

“The study proposed that the LRT should be developed in Johor Bahru to complement the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link (RTS Link), which is slated to be completed by early 2027.

No more LRT.

It will be E-ART which is bus-based.

The expected completion date is unknown.

So far anyone talk about this?

All the talk and hype over RTS so positive, like last time china one belt one road say until as though it is the best deal in entire history of humanity.

But what will happen to local retailers with RTS? Will jhk travel to singapore to spend here when they can spend cheaper back in jiuhu?
My take is before the RTS happens, trump will crash the economy leading to retrenchments. Ppl will hold back spending. Similar to forest city, once hype die down. Will die a natural death.

Remember forest city. Just before launch and success COVID hit. Many PRC and Singaporeans losts money. Now dead elephant other than wanna cash out his losses president hopefully every day saying how gd it is old buy😂, it is dead. Ppl going there to film ghost town videos.

I think it will be both LRT and Buses like the operation in KL. Having LRT and Buses is for transport convenient. Whose knows probably Bukit Chagar would be transform into a Train and Buses like KL Sentral Train Hub in Kuala Lumpur...

The tender will close in August this year. We should know by the end of this year. Expect delays and cost over-runs.

To be honest, talking about retail. Most Singaporeans buy from shoppee, Lazada, taobao. Long before RTs, this rdy the norm so most retail will go through the same method for majority of the products.

Those going JB usually go there for medication and food. Food costs have increased significantly. For e.g. now you go Hua Mui in JB, typical breakfast cost U something like 13.80 myr. Add drink 18 myr. Prices are not far off SG. Cannot use CDC voucher also😂.Only thing can be argued is quality.

However you eat long enough in JB, sure have health problem. They dun hold back on sugar, oil, etc. SG strict guidelines plus SG ample opportunity for walking to burn calories. My no car cannot really move around.

If really every day go in JB eat like that, life sure shorten. Even my Malaysian fren told me this.

Imagine a Monorail or LRT connects directly to Senai Airport and along that route many other train stations. Monorail and LRT train build above ground is cheaper to build and maintain unlike MRT which is tunnelling and underground. KL also has MRT which is underground but I enjoy taking the train rides on Monorail and LRT while I was in KL recently last week. I was surprised too because it is smooth and efficiently operated.
