Subtitles not recorded?

Hi folks

I'm encountering a strange problem which I hope some experts here can help, and also if other people have come across....

I have 2 digital set-top box, one mainly for recording and one mainly for viewing. Normally I have no issue getting the subtitles together with the video in the mts video files.

However, there are times when I record Indian movies from Vasantham channel and found that there's nothing in the DVB english nor tamil subtitles streams. So I thought, okay, maybe mediacorp too busy to have it ensub.... and I even wrote in to comment to them about the lack of engsub recently in their Indian movies!! (And they just wrote back saying thank you for feedback, they will feedback to their vasantham colleagues blah blah blah and that's it). :o:o

But last weekend, I remember to check and strangely, my viewing box was showing the engsub when showing the Indian show but when I checked my recorded mts file, no subtitles were found (though the DVB streams are in the file, but they're empty upon importing to Subtitle-edit).

So question is, is this a set top box issue, or has mediacorp changed the way they broadcast (the problem seems more frequent in past 6 mths)?

Note that I don't seem to have problems with ch 5 and 8 movies/series, AND not all Indian movies have this problem, only certain movies (but no discernible pattern).

Love to watch Indian movies but totally can't watch without engsub, and tough getting them elsewhere with proper engsub.... so if someone know how to solve, #forevergrateful !!

What brand are you using?

Also, did you try to switch the setup boxes? i.e. use the one you usually use to view to record and see if you have the same problem

actually don't have to record. the programs are 'recorded' for you and catalogued properly by toggle.

just run toggle on your phone.

if you want to watch on bigger tv screen, get a chromecast dongle or mibox s, these devices allow you to chromecast the video to TV. They also support subtitle.

Viewing box is a "K2 Plus" box while the recording box is a "SAE-666" box.

I will have to do some more experimentation... the tricky part is that first I must find a show that is showing such problems, like I said, most are not, and I discover it seems like only the Indian movies I record over the weekend have this problem (not all though, and it may also be cause I only usually record Indian movies).

Guess I have to, find one showing engsub, then record it for 5 mins, then see if the recorded ver has engsub, and if not, reverse the process....

The funny thing is, both of my boxes do not show the subtitles when they go into record mode.

Er.... if you can show me where in toggle I can watch the 6 Indian movies they show over the weekend...

also, can't download the movies shown on toggle, even local ones (not even the python script nor the youtube-dl nor those dvd movie downloaders/converters can do it - seems like some DRM protection but if you know of a way, please, pm me, #forevergrateful :) )

And sorry, but I don't watch movies on small screens, and internet set top box? sorry, don't watch streaming movie - can't stand watching the circle turning round and round in the middle of a movie).

toggle chromecasted to 80" big screen - small ?

circle turning round and round? are you still using old tel modem running at 2400bps?

Referring to handphones/pads... DUH...:s8:

Well, I guess you know where all the good pirated movie sites are (can PM me? ;) ). I don't, and yes, I still suffer "fatigue" from toggle, even on 1 Gb fibre.

And I don't like to wait while "jumping" ahead in a movie. You need to wait on streaming movie, especially on parts that are not downloaded yet.

That's why I ALWAYS only watch downloaded (or recorded) movies, NEVER streaming movies, even on youtube.

To each his own....

Anyway, appreciate it if we can get back to my issue rather than talk about my movie viewing behaviour/preferences. Changing my behaviour/preferences won't resolve my issue since it still will not allow me to enjoy the Indian movies shown on Vasantham at my own time (since toggle does not show them at all).

Apr 2019 channel and frequency update on Malaysia DTT frequency for Southern Johor:

682MHz (Mux 1) - 2 HD and 4 SD channels
TV3 HD, NTV7, 8TV, TV9, TVAH (HD), BNC

698MHz (Mux 2) 5 HD channels
TV1 HD, TV2 HD, TV Okey HD, RTM Sports HD and BES (also known as Saluran Berita RTM).

Frequency rescan on digital TV STB / iDTV is required as all RTM channels has moved to second multiplex (another frequency), and Channel W has ceased transmission on Malaysia DTT platform.

If previously you can't receive Malaysia DTT channels on 682MHz in Singapore, perhaps you can try receive the 698MHz one.

Nice ! I can receive all the channels from Malaysia now

682MHz
0800 TV3 HD
0801 TVAH
0802 NTV7
0803 8TV
0804 TV9
0805 BBC

698MHz
0806 TV1
0807 TV Okey
0808 RTM HD Sports
0809 BES
0816 TV2

But then:
Channels under 698MHz, their signal intensity fluctuate from 58% -> 62% -> 58% continously and signal quality also same thing but wider range between 70% to 100%

Channels under 682MHz, their signal quality is always 0% and the signal intensity keeps moving from 90% -> 91% -> 90%, and frequently there is no image, even if have also every 5-10 seconds will hang once

With the New Media Solutions tv box you can record tv programme using EPG to select the various channel and then press the red button. Leave the box on and it will auto record tge selected programme when it is on air

For DVB-T2 set top box (STB), I would recommend IMDA approved products only. The sole reason being that the products have been approved with evidence, among other requirements, that the sets comply with Singapore's electrical safety standards.

Brief details of some of the approved STB are listed below, in alphabetical order.

AscenD STB 1687 with active antenna

1 year warranty. ~$45 + shipping where applicable. TV programs recorded can be played elsewhere, eg pc or lap top, which means that you can do editing also with video editors. For specs, buyers' reviews and seller's answers to queries refer to:

https://www.lazada.sg/products/asce...o42.searchlist.list.1.373264a7vektbd&search=1

https://shopee.sg/Ascend-DVB-T2-Set...apore-Mediacorp-Channels-i.4685102.1427382657

Draco HDT2-7700 with active antenna

~$100. Duration of warranty not stated (Discontinued model HDT2-7300 came with 1 year warranty). Available at Courts. Stock may be limited. For specs and user manual refer to:

https://www.skycomsatellite.com/product/draco-hdt2-7700/

Hyundai HDV-360

6 month warranty. ~ $30 + shipping where applicable. For buyers' reviews and seller's answers to queries refer to:

https://www.lazada.sg/products/hyun...MImvuO-pbN4QIVFw4rCh1pBQmAEAQYAiABEgJJ7_D_BwE

Telematrix TM-IRD-S2

6 months warranty ~$38 + shipping where applicable. For specs refer to:

Online website: https://www.99sme.sg/it-and-electro...annels-includes-free-hdmi-cable-and-av-cable/

Note: all STB mentioned above can record TV programs. For more specific information such as instant/schedule recording and pause/time shift which means you can pause the tv program while being viewed and come back to continue viewing where you have left off, refer to the respective websites.

Disclaimer: I have no business interests in any one of these products. You are advised to compare and decide on the one that suits your requirements best.

Now the problem is how to fix the DARCO dvb-t2 (Bought it from Gain city by using IMDA $100 voucher)tv channel 8 lagging?
If what you see is pixelated or frozen/still image, then the problem of your Draco is probably caused by below average signal intensity/signal quality for ch 31 (554 MHz) used for chan 8 and Vas, even if there is no problem for Vas.

What you can do it to do "Channel Scan" (pg. 7 of user manual) for this channel. While watching the indicators for the intensity and quality, adjust the antenna to achieve the best values (quality more important than intensity). After this has been done you have to verify the receptions for the other channels are not affected by the new antenna position.

If you don't have a copy of the user manual, you can download a soft copy using the link just before this post.

Unless your wifi adapter uses the MT7601 chipset, it would not work. Refer to my thread over here for more info.
