I do not have insider news on that.

StarHub named them (HD) is because they take the data directly from the MediaCorp EPG. If you go look at SingTel Mio TV's EPG they also take the same data.

And StarHub is always ready to broadcast HD (look at the amount of HD channels they have now), the only question is whether they want to carry it or not.

for starhub EPG, i noticed that they didn't put (HD) word at the titles for ch8, but hide it inside the description... but for suria and vas, they put (HD) at the titles... dunno why got such diff.
anyway, starhub EPG has removed all the (HD) word now, except for ch5 and HD5... seems like they don't want ppl to ask about the HD thing.

why ppl keep asking "when" pay tv will carry hd, that's because there is no timeline announced to the public on the discussion... so the public is interested to know the progress and an estimated waiting time, eg. next mth, mid 2014, end 2014 or after 2016.
and also last time when starhub finally carried HD5, there are some disagreements like this:
No HDTV for some because of StarHub-MediaCorp spat

as for whether starhub is going to open new channel numbers for mediacorp hd, or re-use ch 102-108, i'm still waiting... of course separate channel numbers will be better as hubstation hd users can choose to record sd (less space) or hd (more space).
but looking at mediacorp only got ch8(HD) and no ch8(SD) for DVB-T2 transmission, after 2020 when analogue and DVB-T shutdown, mediacorp will only maintain 7 HD channels and no more SD channels.
so i guess eventually (after 2020), only HD channels will remain.

trust yourself that you have made the right choice so you would have no guilts and/or regrets after seeing people recommending other TV sets that once were recommended to you. :)

They may have problem of overloading, ie too strong signal, haha. That's what happened for analogue signal.

i thought analogue signal is mostly outdoor coverage, that's why easily blocked by buildings, and reception is difficult.

i guess DVB-T2's indoor coverage is something like mobile phone 3G/4G network, with indoor coverage, anywhere inside the building will have strong signal. so u just need a simple small antenna and u will be able to get signal easily, just like a cell phone.
anyway, this is just my guess. so would like to know if residents in bukit batok (with indoor coverage ready) can get DVB-T2 signal very easily, eg. connecting tv to a long cable or metal rod and able to get signal etc.
if the indoor signal is very strong, then 2 yrs later when islandwide indoor coverage is ready, there will be no worry on reception.

Daiyo EU1702 Indoor Digital Antenna maybe? Many recommend it here. :)

I have the Daiyo EU1702 connected to my Samsung F7500 LED TV. The TV and antenna are placed in a cabinet in my bedroom and I have no issues getting the HD signal even when I close the cabinet door. BTW, I'm staying at the HDB estate in Toh Yi Drive. My experience with this has been so good that I went out and purchased another unit of the Daiyo EU1702 for my living room TV which is a Sony W954.

seems like ur estate got indoor coverage.
most of us with only outdoor coverage must put the antenna near window in order to get DVB-T2 signal.
with indoor coverage, maybe u use a simple antenna also can easily get signal.

Read through this thread and understand that the Draco STB is selling at some best denki, NTUC Xtra, and courts outlets. Anyone spotted it selling at Harvey norman?

Saw it selling at Harvey Norman West Mall branch.

Was at West Mall Harvey Norman earlier and saw a TV connected to the Draco Box/Draco Provided Antenna......and the TV has 5 HD switched on....the TV display was inside Harvey Norman....am surprised the indoor signals are so strong.

GUYS!

Omg I am gonna repeat this again.

MediaCorp is still in discussions with both pay TV operators to carry the 3 HD channels. The (HD) you have seen is just the description, to show ppl that this show is available in HD.

The HD channels are not gonna replace the SD channels on their platform, and that is because MDA mandates the pay TV operators to carry both SD and HD version of the channels.

As for the carriage of the HD channels, once again, I say that both of them currently only carry Channel 5 HD, because it was launched 1st back in 2007. They are now in discussions to carry the remaining 3 HD channel on their platforms.

When the HD channels are opened on their channel list, they will announce it.

There is no HD packs or whatsoever because when they launch them, they must be offered at no cost.

Actually the Ch 5 HD carried on mio TV and Starhub is the DVB-T feed as the subtitles still could not be switched off. So strictly speaking, mio TV and Starhub still has to replace the Ch 5 HD feed with the DVB-T2 CH 5 HD feed in addition to the Ch 8 HD, Suria HD and Van HD channels. Comes down to dollars and cents in negotiation......why couldn't MDA use their MDA funds to solve this carriage issue?

Maybe I was too brief...When I mentioned analogue signal too strong in Bukit Batok, this arises because the antenna is very close to the transmitter and so the received signal for input to matv amplifier is very high. In many cases attenuator has to be used (like volume control) to reduce the input to the amplifier.

And in spite of blockage by buildings etc, the indoor signal is still high enough to be picked up directly by the antenna cable (between wall point and tv). This so called direct pickup signal is often strong enough for use by tv set without the help of signal from the wall point.

This direct pickup signal, when mixed with the signal of the same channel from the matv, causes another problem. Because of slight difference in the arrival time of the two signals (one from matv and one from direct pickup) to the tv set, it results in what is called a leading ghost (instead of the well known ghost which lags the main picture.

I do not know exactly how Mediacorp do to improve indoor coverage. As far as Bukit Batok area is concern, since the outdoor signal is likely to be very strong as explained above, the inference is that the indoor signal is likely to be very strong as well, to the extent of possibly overloading tuner such as Draco which has an upper limit of -70dB(m) as stated in the specs.

Don't know why but i still have strong feeling that StarHub will carry the signal unencrypted into the wall point sooner later...

They are here to reap profit from the mass, not to dump more money to please the population... :s8:
