Hi guys,

It has been many years i last visited this sub forum. I do see some familiar guys still hanging around and helping this community. Great to see you guys are active and hanging around!

BTW, I am hoping to get some advice from you guys and hopefully with your help and advice, you can point me towards the right direction (i have been out of this DIY computer scene for quite some time). Presently, my PC is showing signs of aging and weird symptoms. Behind the scenes for past 2 weeks or so, many friends are helping to troubleshoot my PC problem and we realised we are going in circles and still unable to nail down the problem. Time is money and I use this PC for work and personal use.

Hence, I am thinking to do a "small upgrade" for my PC for a fresh start.

Currently, my specs are as follows:
  1. AMD 5600 CPU (previously it was AMD 1700)
  2. ASUS ROG Crosshair VI Extreme
  3. Samsung 960 Pro 512GB M.2
  4. Corsair 3466MHZ 16GB kit (8GB x2)
  5. Zotac 1080Ti
  6. Seasonic Prime Platinum 850W
  7. Thermaltake P3 Open Chassis

Now, I am thinking to upgrade by recycling some parts:
  1. AMD 5600 CPU
  2. ASrock B550m/ac or ASUS TUF Gaming B550m plus wifi ii - Kindly advise this new part
  3. WD Black SN850X 1TB M.2 - Kindly advise this new part
  4. GSkill 3600MHz 32GB kit (16GB x2) - Kindly advise this new part
  5. Zotac 3080Ti (my previous 1080Ti might be sold off cheap cheap)
  6. Seasonic Prime Platinum 850W
  7. Open Benchtable V2

About the new parts, I am not entirely sure if they are a "good fit" in the system. My goal is to keep the system running for the next 3 years while not spending too much (keeping costs low) and I could play games like the upcoming Diablo 4 and what not, comfortably. Hence, would like to hear opinions from you guys regarding my choice of parts, namely Mobo, ram, and SSD.

Will it be a good fit? Is/are there any concerns? Are there other options up for consideration? Finally, are there any huge differences (in terms of feature and performance) between ASrock B550m/ac and the ASUS TUF Gaming B550m plus wifi ii?

Cheers, and hope I (and some others who are reading this) can get some clarity out from this adventure.

*Side note: I might upgrade to 5800X3D if the price is right aka lelong.

For SSD, would you all go for the one with heatsink or the one without? :s11:
if the heatsink variant is much more expensive and ur mobo already has one, then i would go without.
Between the Lian Li dynamic mini air 011 and Lian Li dynamic mini 011, which one can a CM MWE gold v2 650w be installed? Or are they the same?:ROFLMAO:
only mini air can fit that psu, dynamic mini only accepts sfx psu.
Can the MSI gaming x trio 3070 be fitted in either of them as well?
gpu clearance should be no issue for either case.

a 5600 might hold back a 3080ti at lower resolutions like 1080p, but should be a non issue at 1440p or higher. not too sure where u can still find a brand new local set 3080ti though, most shops ran out many months back and for the price they were selling for u can now get a 4070ti for less which will be faster. if u are playing at 1080p, do consider the 5800x3d.
Finally, are there any huge differences (in terms of feature and performance) between ASrock B550m/ac and the ASUS TUF Gaming B550m plus wifi ii?
on the asrock board, u get less usb ports and miss out on type c, slower networking, no preinstalled io shield and 1 less nvme slot. the vrm is also very likely less capable on the b550m/ac compared to the tuf gaming, though for a 5600 or 5800x3d this should be a non issue and there should be no performance differences.

Appreciate the prompt response buddy. That sets a more decisive direction for me. I'll go with the ASUS TUF mobo. How about the choice of ram though? I am concerned about it because my previous AMD 1700 did not mate well with a pair of 3466MHZ ram, and it was super unstable to use. What's your view on the choice of ram nowadays to pair with the AMD 5600 as well as the QVL of the mobo?

I work and game at 1440p previously, and moving forward, am seeing myself using a 4K monitor in the weeks or months to come (see when lelong sale is going to happen).

On a separate note about the 3080 Ti... A friend of mine kindly sold his super mint 3080 Ti to me at a "hold hand" pricing. A buddy looking out for another buddy.

Thanks NightRaven bro for the advise. More or less finalize my build.

Though still in a dilemma between future-proofing and value for money:
1) ryzen 5600 + asrock b550m steel legend
2) i5 13500 + asus tuf gaming b660m plus wifi d5

is either processor fine with running the 3070? no bottlenecking of the CPU?

is the steel legend a good choice for the 5600?

ryzen's memory support has drastically improved since zen 2 onwards, so 3600mhz should be no issue.

in general cpu bottleneck should not be an issue if u are using a midrange gpu and game at higher resolutions like 1440p and above. both cpus should be able to bring out the most of the 3070. as a result, if ur just gaming, the 5600 should deliver basically the same experience as the 13500. do take note that u must use ddr5 ram for the intel combo, which is still significantly more expensive than ddr4, and so overall the 5600 is more sensible if u don't do core heavy tasks. lga1700 isn't really that futureproof anyway, the whole 13th gen series is already available and is the 2nd gen on this socket, so likely no upcoming cpus.
is the steel legend a good choice for the 5600?
pretty alright.

so for gaming on 1080p, will the ryzen 5600 cause any bottleneck?

that's my main concern as my current i57600 and 1080 causing bottle neck to my cpu @ 1080p.

Deepcool AK620 reviews looks good and Thermalright too.

Deepcool (China) and Thermalright (Taiwan) really giving reputable brands a run for the money.

I use Deepcool Ice edge mini cooler for my AM3 system , gives decent results.
Supremely easy to clip onto the motherboard.
The price is really kick ass if buy from Taobao.

hi, I am currently on 5600x and 3070 but would like to update my system for 1440p

main games would be fps shooters like cod series (mw2 now) over watch and some cs go

occasionally will play latest aaa titles too .. but not mich

would 5800x and a 4080 be a good step towards achieving high fps game play on 1440p since I intend to also get a 240hz oled soon

Or just a 4080 suffice?

it will also depend on the games u play. 5600 + 3070 is a pretty common setup, so likely that u will be able to find a benchmark video on yt covering ur game. u can then either see what the gpu utilisation is like if the video provides it (best if near 100%) or compare the fps with another video with a stronger cpu (best if fps is similar). in general the 5600 should be fine, maybe some bottlenecking here and there but nothing that will seriously hold back the 3070.
How suitable is the Deepcool AK620 for the Ryzen 9 7900
very overkill. the 7900 consumes under 100w stock, basically the same as any other ryzen cpu that is rated for 65w tdp.

5600x to 5800x will not yield much fps gains, if u really want to avoid cpu bottleneck without switching platform u will need to go 5800x3d. i would also suggest considering the 7900 xtx given that u can find some models cheaper than 4080 while delivering on average the same level of 1440p performance, and way more than even the 4090 in cod games.

seems like a pretty good deal to me for the parts, though i would swap out some parts (especially psu). aftershock does seem to be running some pretty cheap deals for their ready to ship desktops, though i still wouldnt recommend them.

Thank you for the reply. What are the components that you will swap out? I have asked them whether they carry any other brands of PSU. The other components feel okish to me. Glad to hear other comments

Went out to get a psu and 7900xtx nitro but realised my b550m Aorus elite has connectors at the bottom of the board blocking the card….
What are my options now besides changing the board?o_O

After some thought, I might want to build a new pc and sell off the old one since hands abit itchy. Not reusing parts for easier sale hopefully

currently have on hand a 1000w psu and 7900xtx nitro

setting aside 2k -2.5k for all items below. Based on a quick browse on biz gram price list here as some avg prices

Cpu and motherboard Asus tug x670e and 7800x3d - $1381 (just realised this chip is not out yet. This price list Canot trust hahaha. But willing to wait since will be on holiday for next 3 weeks till April))
Ram - 32gb - gskill flare expo ram - $230
Ssd - 1tb - wd850x $168
Aio Cooler - $200 budget
Case - $250 budget
No need for fancy lights

Any recommendation for the price point? Should I lower the cpu expectations for a better motherboard ? Pardon my pc building ignorance as it has been sometime since I read about building a new pc

Usage mainly for 1440p fps gaming. Hope to maximize use of a 240hz 1440p monitor (yet to buy)

Thanks for sharing this and your previous post. Nearly pulled the trigger on aftershock but end up Invader PC got better parts and warranty option.
