I suggest getting the 5700x3d, generally costs $260 and has pretty much same performance as 7800x3d in DD2. Even though the platform is at a dead end, this is still a high quality CPU and much more value than an AM5 CPU right now.

Heres a little mockup:
CPU: Ryzen 5 5700x3D ($258 carousell $200 taobao)
CPU Cooler:Thermalright PA120SE ($48 amazon)
Motherboard: MSI B550M PRO-VDH Wifi($160 amazon, use DBS card for$15 off) 2 SSD slots / ASUS Prime B450M-A II (1 SSD slot but $99)
RAM: Lexar 16GB(8x2) THOR DDR4 3200Mhz ($37 amazon)
SSD: Samsung 990 Evo 2TB ($162 amazon)
GPU: ???
PSU: Thermaltake GF1 850W $147
CASE: Montech Air 903 Max $70 carousell, includes 3x140 fans

This adds up to $867, which you can spend around 1k for the gpu. However, new AMD/NVIDIA gpus coming soon, could release before MH Wilds come out. PSU/Motherboard pricing probably could be better, but this is the best i can find.
2k is plenty for a decent cpu + gpu, especially if u buy prebuilt. right now u can get a 7600 + 78xt from invaderpc for less than 1.3k, which can do 4k gaming quite well and u will be set for the next few years. u can consider faster parts like the 78x3d or 4070 super, which are considerably more expensive but both can still be fit within 2k.

am4 isnt worth it for builds costing over 1k, and the 57x3d is only really for those already on am4. depending on the resolution, cpu may not matter as much, even in cpu bound engines like ue5.

i would go for a local set adata xpg core reactor for $20 less.

price and flexibility. invader pricing is pretty good, most of the time u diy also cannot beat, but u lose the choice in picking the exact parts u want. going to dynacore is the exact opposite, but thats not to say one is better over the other.

then u really have to diy or go pc shops, including cleaning the pc or just suck up the cleaning cost. most system integrators have a very limited selection of parts compared to diy.
I think I really want a 4070 super/ti but would it be wiser to wait for the 50 series if not in a hurry or is it better to grab the 40 series now as they're being discontinued and could get more expensive?

ya will be wiser to wait. The moment new gpus come out, your current gpu drop in value by alot

Hi bros,

Been almost 10 years since I built my own rig. Reading up a lot last few days and keen to build a relatively high end (but good value for money) rig - will be buying most from Amazon as it seems cheaper than dynacore / tradepac?

Is it worthwhile for me to buy during Amazon black friday sales and then buy the GPU when 5000 series comes out next year? Most likely will get a 5080

Ryzen 9800x3d (buy from Australia about 730 SGD)
Gigabyte B650M AORUS ELITE AX (233 SGD)
PHANTOM ASSASSIN 120 SE COOLER (48 SGD)
TEAMGROUP T-CREATE EXPERT DDR5 32GB CL30 (142 SGD)
WD BLACK SN850X 2TB SSD (184 SGD)
[Graphics Card TBU - likely 5080 when release next year]
ADATA XPG CORE REACTOR II VE 850W ATX3.1 80+ GOLD (140 SGD)
[Any case recommendations? Is the Montech AIR 903 MAX Sufficient or should i buy something else? Likely want a mid to small size case] (Budget 100 SGD)

Total 1577 SGD excluding GPU

I kinda DIY all the parts above so not sure if there are any suggestions to improve on pricing or if any compatibility issues?

I'll always recommend montec air 903 max, on carousell there's someone selling for $70 frost white, would save u $30. Personally i went with Lian li lancool 216 white, building experience was super easy cable management wise. 903 max has good cable management features as well, so its up to u.

total still $950+, less than $100 saving vs local combo. not so sure if thats worth it to wait for the items to ship over and lose the local warranty, not to mention u are just limited to this 1 board,
TEAMGROUP T-CREATE EXPERT DDR5 32GB CL30 (142 SGD)
x3d is not as reliant on low latency memory as non x3d ryzen. u could save $20 and get the klevv fit 6000c32 kit from pckaki for next to no performance loss, and u get local lifetime warranty too.
ADATA XPG CORE REACTOR II VE 850W ATX3.1 80+ GOLD (140 SGD)
u can get the og core reactor for $10 less from performance pc, better quality with 10y warranty vs 7y on the ii ve.

its ok. but if not urgent, recommend to put off high end gpu purchase and wait and see what 50 series brings, since 4080/4080s successor is expected to launch early next year for probably the same price the 4080s is selling for right now.

Hello NightRaven49,

I also thinking getting a new pc as my current PC about 10 years old, gtx 970 + i5 6500 + B150M, missed out alot of gaming.
still comparing aftershock and invader, is it much more cheaper to source the items and pay someone to build?
i thought going for 4080s with 98003xd, maybe i wait for the 50 series come and see how much 4080s can drop.

Thanks bro, really appreciate your replies. Very helpful!

Agree that after looking at Dynacore prices it's around 1050 for the same Mobo + CPU. Only reason why I went Amazon route is because the other SSD and RAM etc. adds up (e.g. Dynacore is about ~30$ more for same SSD and RAM, probably PSU as well) which is then another $100+. Still thinking if get mobo + CPU locally and then some of the other items buy from Amazon but then means need to pay Dynacore +$15 for standalone mobo and CPU price

One thing to check - because I don't have GPU now. Is it worth it to wait until next year Q1 when 5000 series launches and get everything together, or take advantage of black friday sales and build the rest of the rig first before slotting in GPU at a later date?

Dear Experts here,
I had tried to checked back few pages in this thread but cannot see/find the detail.

Can you kindly recommend the parts set of a DIY desktop pc setup for "Basic" usage.
Is for my wife use, and mainly use for, FB's games, FB, & Youtube browsing, drama watching.
Extra info, so far and current set the grahic & sound are built-in with mainboard type.
Budget: <$500 preferably if still able to achieve.
Thank you in advance for your kind advices.

Any kind experts can advise please? Thank you.

unless u have specific parts that u want but prebuilt companies dont offer, then prebuilt is quite cheap if all u want is a pc.

it depends on what u value more - having a gpu to game with now or getting the most mileage for ur dollar. the 4080s is still a good gpu, but as mentioned in my reply to solo24, high end 50 series is coming out soon, so it is quite likely that the 4080s drops in price then or we get a faster card for the same money as the 4080s is selling for now.
Really hoping 50 series won't be jacked up like crazy due to scalping..
at the beginning there are bound to be some, but as long as there is no proof of work crypto that suddenly rallies, any scalping should be short term. the real question is how much gpu manufacturers will just arbitrarily raise prices.
@NightRaven49 Been hearing a lot of horror stories about Asus return policy. Are we in Singapore affected since we are not buying directly from Asus but from local distributors?
🤷‍♂️ have not bought local asus parts before so cannot comment. buying from local distro also doesnt mean wont kena this kind of nonsense.
Any kind experts can advise please? Thank you.
already replied u the last time (same answer as bardiel).

I'm in a dilemma. Was looking at Invader PC, seems that their deal is quite good, and can partially customise the parts. Overall its a lot more convenient. However, they use a lot of Asus products, esp the mobo and GPU. From what I read online, Asus service has been lackluster in the past few years.

Yea I know, but what attracted me was the delivery. I don't drive, so everytime I need to do up a PC, its very tough to have to take cab. I actually find it easier to buy back the parts and assemble at home, than to carry a huge CPU home.
