I am trying to get a build up to replace my old Haswell PC but very lazy build myself.
Mostly gaming, video editing and encoding.
Are all these parts compatible with each other?
Few questions:
Looking at ASUS or Gigabyte Mobos, any additional recommendations? Guess most of them have min 4 SATA ports?
Is it worth to go up to 7700X or is the normal version ok
5600MHz vs 6000MHz - doesnt seem too worth to upgrade?
PSU able to withstand all the way to 7900XT?

Preferably will go to 1 shop to settle everything
MB & CPUASUS ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI + 7700X
RAMKINGSTON FURY BEAST RGB 5600MHz CL36 AMD EXPO (2x16GB)
GPURX480 (Reuse, probably upgrade to 6750XT)
SSDCrucial MX500 2TB
PSUCorsair RM850e
CaseLian Li PC O11 Evo Black
AIOArtic Freezer II 360

Thanks in advance
1. This B650E-F Strix is ok, but moving to an Asrock B650E PG Riptide would probably allow you to get a 7900 or even a 7800X3D, which would overall be a significant boost for gaming. The B650E PG Riptide has the same VRM as the B650 Livemixer which buildzoid reviewed and is more than capable of powering a 7950X (which I did). Getting a 7900 would give you 4 more cores while getting a 7800X3D will give you more gaming performance.

The RAM is ok, it would probably be Hynix die, you could manually up the frequency to 6000MHz and tighten timings pretty well.

I have the exact PSU, I use it with the 7950X + 7900XTX, it should be fine though I think you can also look at the Asus Strix 850W PSU for a similar price.

Parts are compatible though you can look at a M.2 SSD if possible since you have that option.

With rumors about RX 7600 (XT?) possibly being released late next month, would it be wise to wait for that (which could lead to a price drop of the current 6000 gen) or just purchase a RX 6600 / RX 6650XT now considering the prices are pretty decent now.

What are your thoughts?

do you think the Asrock A620M is a good pair with 7800X3D?

i'm thinking of saving some money on the motherboard.

https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/A620M Pro RS WiFi/index.asp#Overview
a while back asrock a620s had funky behaviour, not sure if they fixed through their whole lineup.
Looking at ASUS or Gigabyte Mobos, any additional recommendations? Guess most of them have min 4 SATA ports?
u dont need a strix board, the gigabyte ds3h will be enough. asrock b650s are also good value.
Is it worth to go up to 7700X or is the normal version ok
based on ur use case, actually may be better to go intel. encoding can make use of the higher thread count of 13th gen, and if u get those with igpu, can improve video editing with quicksync.
5600MHz vs 6000MHz - doesnt seem too worth to upgrade?
there will be a slight performance penalty, especially if u dont tune the secondary timings, but nothing too big i suppose.
PSU able to withstand all the way to 7900XT?
850w enough for 4090 and 7900xtx.

with leaks indicating a low double digit performance increase, id say just get the 6650 xt for under 450 now if u urgently need a gpu, if the 6600 xt launch price was anything to go by. the 7600 series looks like it will still sport 8gb of vram, so there is no futureproofing angle either. that said, if u can wait, may not be a bad idea to wait.

personally I'd just sell it off and get the value gaming rig I suggested, maybe keep the ssd and case but the rest are pretty old parts and will likely hold back any upgrades.

fairly poor value, especially with the hamstrung 8gb 3060 which performs worse than a 6600. I wouldn't buy this, too many things to replace. if u can diy, u can take a look at the value gaming rig as a guide.

sure why not if its diy. locally not much stock for msi b550m though, most that are still listed are the more premium models like mortar.

sim lim square has many pc parts shops that also have building services. can go ownself compare which shop has the cheapest price for full build, some even have prebuilts ready to go.

can confirm the model number? tradepac price list closest i could find is the ap850gm, which is pretty decent actually. the exploding units were non aorus branded anyway.

Hi hi experts, need advice/suggestions on some parts I've short listed for a brand new build. Currently using 1080p monitor with plans to upgrade to 1440p. Prices are estimate because subject to changes and some are sourced online.

CPU
Thinking between 13700k and 7800x3D but given the saga surrounding AM5 now plus Intel still the better all-rounder based on YouTube reviews, might go for Intel this round.

Rumors got 13th gen refresh coming up in August - is it worth the wait till then?

Motherboard:
Are those 2 listed any good?

PSU:
Really need some help here as I've no idea what to look out for. Do I need 1000w and up PSU here based on specs listed? Any recommendations?

Imo, the X3D news is overblown.
Personally, I'm going for the 7800X3D.

Sorry, can I ask what will be a value for money motherboard for intel i7-13700 or k series?

Will only be looking to add a gpu at a later time, so will need integrated graphics for the moment.
But do intent to get a gpu, so the motherboard need to support.

Thanks.

Incident is massively overblown, it should be no issue with the latest BIOS update

For AMD
Ryzen 7 7800X3D + Asrock B650E PG Riptide WiFi (14 phase VRM matching Z790 levels, PCIe 5 x16, sensible PCIe layout, ample USB ports, 8 layer PCB)

For Intel
Intel i7-13700K/KF + MSI Z790-P Pro WiFi D5 (also 14 phase VRM, slightly weaker than B650E Riptide but more than enough, many connectivity options)

You can definitely go with an 850W as long as you are going balls to the wall with an overclock, would recommend looking at a solid power supply like a Corsair RM850i 2021 or Asus Strix 850W PSU

Rest looks fine though you can consider a WD SN850X instead

Hmm, for the CPU that's just one of the push factors - there are other pull factors to Intel as well like for general all-rounder build, etc. + a little cheaper (maybe 100-200). In the end, the games I play also don't know can make use of the cache :s13:

For mobo, are there any issues with the short listed ones? Not strictly on a "tight" budget but of course cheaper options welcomed.

For PSU, how about seasonic/superflower/FSP - are those solid options as well?

OK la is mainly cause B650 mobos are expensive, and reason for the expensive is cause B650 mobos are so overbuilt they have VRMs that can match or exceed those found in Z790 motherboards. You can throw pretty much any CPU made for the next 2-3 years on it without worrying about VRMs (B350/B450 have the opposite issue of having absolutely terrible VRMs)

Those mobos don't really have any issues per se, but for the most part, the VRM of the MSI Z790-P Pro is more than enough for the I7-13700K, 4 M.2, 6 SATA and a rear IO that is not completely anaemic (7 type A, 1 type C, 1 PS/2). You do get more with the Z790 Aorus Elite AX (better VRM, 2 more USB at the cost of reduced audio, heatsink for all M.2, slightly better PCIe layout) and the Z790 Strix H (better VRM, 1 more type A and type C, heatsink for all M2, better PCIe layout), but the MSI board is good enough to handle even the i9-13900K, so you have to ask yourself if the additional features are worth the price increase.

As for PSU
Seasonic is good but more expensive
Superflower is a good alternative to the Strix
From my price list I don't see a 850W equivalent for FSP though there is a 850W SFX gold PSU

u dont have to worry about game implementation affecting utilisation of cache, to the os 3d vcache is just treated as regular l3 cache, theres just more of it, so it will just use as much of it as possible. if ur just gaming, i would say going 7800x3d is the better choice, since the 13700k is somewhat slower in gaming and u wouldnt be making use of the latters multicore performance as much. u can also get the 7800x3d with a decent b650 motherboard that has better connectivity (eg pcie 5) than most z790 boards while being about the same price (usually less) than the 13700k combo, or u can even take it down to a a620 board for more savings while still keeping the potential to upgrade to future ryzen cpus. the 13700k also chugs power and needs more cooling, while u can go with a cheap air cooler for the 7800x3d.

probably not.

z790 in general should be fairly decent, even entry level boards like the asus prime are good picks. just get whatever has the feature set u want.

for a 7900xtx, a 850w unit is enough - just follow the manufacturer recommended psu. seasonic and super flower are good picks, fsp has good units but u need to know which ones are the good ones. if u can still find the asus rog strix psu (basically a seasonic unit) in stock for a good price, that is also worth ur consideration.

for 13700 non k, i would say the msi pro b660m-a wifi for ddr4 and gigabyte b760m aorus elite ax d5 for ddr5. for k series, just get the cheapest z790 u can find for the type of memory u are aiming for, as mentioned above any should be decent.

I find the Z790 Prime actually more anaemic in the VRM and IO compared to the cheaper MSI (and even a B650 board which is supposed to have less IO) so I would say the MSI is the minimum "good pick" for Z790 mobo, any more and you are gonna have to compare features and see if you actually need these features.

Thanks both for the detailed input!

For the CPU, understand that 7800x3D is the efficiency king and better at gaming. But then, the PC is not purely for gaming. I do use emulators (Bluestacks) and virtual desktops. I'm sure 7800x3D will perform just fine as well but at a slight increase in price. From GN review of 7800x3D, it seems like Intel is still the better one for an all-rounder build?

Upgradability is not really a concern, most likely it will be just a build and forget till it dies :s13:
