hi all, its been a while since the pc rig recommendations thread was updated, so in continuing its spirit, i have put together a new list of recommendations with more modern parts. please note, ive only used local price lists; u may be able to find better deals elsewhere, but this list will focus on brand new local stock parts. for most builds i have also left out the prices of windows keys and case, these should be spent as deemed fit (assume $150 budget for case in total price if case not mentioned, recommendations at the bottom).

2026 UPDATE: ram and ssd costs are sky high, some of the lists below may no longer be accurate. unless u are able to source these for good prices, building now is generally not a good idea.

• Prefer smaller form factor

There is no chance of selling off individually since parts are so old?
Want to recycle ssd/hdd, but not sure which other parts are able to be re-used e.g. RAM
The parts quoted above in the recommendations seems readily available in Carousell, is it usually safe to buy 2nd hand?

CPU and GPU are generally okay, buy them with a warranty left. GPU mining card avoid.

Used Mobo and PSU, I would avoid, too many things can go wrong.

For used ram, the most common thing is oxidization on the gold contacts, which you will need to take care of. Usually starts to happen after 6 months of usage, highly depending on the environment. Otherwise, your pc will be going on and off non-stop (memory training fail), and fail to boot, when you power it on.

I have lost the use of my laptop recently, and am looking at a desktop replacement. I will be using it mainly for web browsing, Youtube, Twitch, and some light gaming, etc.

A couple of question please.

Will the Ryzen 5 5600g Vega 7 be sufficient to run Stalker Anomaly or the GAMMA mod if anyone has any experience with the game.

Can and is a better MB recommended for the Ryzen 5 5600g? I mean are b550 MB called for if I want to up the ram to 16gb?

Can and is it recommended to go 16gb ram?

in my experience is generally easier to sell as a whole unit compared to individual parts, especially for older parts like these. if the monitor is fine for ur use u should keep it, u could also keep the psu if u want, though the rest of the pc will be harder to sell.

i would suggest the cheapest rig in my recommendation and swap the case out for a tecware fusion, as mentioned it is about the same size as a nr200. u can also add on ram and a better psu if u want.

if u are comfortable with and understand the risks of 2nd hand, it is a viable alternative. so far ive had no issues with them, but remember to do ur due diligence like inspecting the parts or asking for tests before dealing.

only their a-gf series, which is based off the same platform of other high end psu from cwt. it is just the cheapest high end psu available, no one is stopping u from getting more established units like corsair rm/x or seasonic focus as u mentioned

i would say cpu and ram are generally safe to buy 2nd hand. cpus hardly ever die if used normally, and ram usually has lifetime warranty and is fairly small and light so even if have to ship overseas to rma it can be affordable to do so. the rest i would exercise more caution and get those with local warranty remaining.

ram capacity is not dependent on mobo chipset, 16gb of ram is doable on a520 or b550. in fact, with a 5600g, there is no point going b550 as the 5600g only supports pcie gen 3, so the main differentiating factor of b550 with gen 4 is nullified and it makes more sense going a520.

as long as it is a modest gpu u should be fine, the 5600g shouldnt hold back any dgpu below the 3070.

u definitely need better ram than that if u want to game. yongkit's suggestion is actually quite relevant as it is high speed low latency, while these crucial ones are high latency so ur graphics performance will be adversely impacted. unfortunately can be quite difficult to find low latency kits locally, especially after crucial eol-ed their ballistix series with 3600c16. the only one i remember seeing was kingston's fury beast 3600c17 2x 8gb @ $95, also from dynacore. as for psu, if ur budget allows, wont hurt getting a better quality unit like the ones mentioned in the higher budget builds.

I just added the less than $100 budget corsair lpx 16GB kits @ 3600CL16 which I feel the best bang for buck.

for Ryzen APU like 5600G you get better benefits with faster RAM kits like the 3600CL16 kits because of the igpu allocation for RAM.

Other than the RAM with this budget I would recommend slight top up go for 1TB storage (as actual storage 500GB nvme will be lesser by 10% scale) as you will fill up the space for game and storage with regular windows + game update patch if you do not maintain your storage on regular basis.

When selling desktop PC, is it safe to simply unplug HDD, SSD from the system, before sale? Or need to wipe something else from mobo and ram? E.g. reset Windows?

This mobo is mostly out of stock everywhere. Any other viable alternative for pairing with 5600g, is it worth to prepare for PCI 4.0?
