From the mid range 1.3k build in the OP, what’s the most worthwhile upgrade for future proofing if the budget goes up to 1.6 to 1.8k ish? Very light gaming (Dota2, Football Manager), basic Office works etc. just for future proofing.

Hello, anyone has any advice on this set of ram?

Crucial RAM 32GB Kit (2x16GB) DDR5 4800MHz CL40 Desktop Memory CT2K16G48C40U5

I found a good deal on Amazon to upgrade my ram, but am not sure if this is suitable for my built.

Rough specs:
i5 12600KF
Asus Z790-P Wifi CSM
3090 TI

Thank you!
I don't intend to upgrade until a few years down the road. Given my use case does the crucial one make sense? I can get this set for about $100 now on Amazon.
thats pretty good pricing for a 32gb ram kit, even lower than ddr4. yes it is basic and cant clock very high, but intel doesnt need fast tight memory like amd to perform well. to get ur rig up and working, it is a good choice to go with these crucial sticks, given that with a 12600k, 4800c40 ram delivers around 90% of the performance of faster 6400c32 in cpu limited scenarios:
even with a top of the line lga1700 chip the 13900k, this scaling is also reflected:
so yes, looking at the ram alone, having 90% of the performance of the kits that kaixax recommended at 75% of the cost, thats pretty good value. u can also slice it the other way where saving $40 is really nothing in terms of the cost of the whole build, plus u can also opt to not run xmp to make sure the system is stable while still having the option of faster ram when u do upgrade.

i dont see any reason to spend another $300-500 with that use case, the system is far more than capable for it. u wont notice any performance uplift, in the present and also the future, but u will definitely notice the hole in ur wallet.

Thank you for the details.

The price of the crucial ram kits is really attractive, hence I am weighing my options. With a discount coupon, I can get it at 2/3 the price of the Teamgroup ram. I will likely run this at the base 4800 MHz without OC for now.

Will go with the crucial ram. Thank you so much!

My friend not going for ASUS only, he said that he contacted a shop and they recommend him that.
Infact, i am going to pass him my old GPU Palit GTX 1060 Dual 6GB GDDR5 when he comes over. He told me that he doesn't have enough to get 4090 now. So i say use for now lor, next time got more moolah, upgrade the GPU.

Like you say, maybe you can recommend him to downgrade and a different RIG, he is only 30ish and wants to use it mainly for Trading US market) plus play D4? But no plans to buy a 4k monitor yet. He really likes 7800X3D. And needs it to be quiet and not hot because afterall, he has his computer in the bedroom.
that shop really tried to upsell ur friend a rig he cant make full use of, best to look elsewhere and not give them business. if ur friend is not playing d4 at the moment, he could just get the rest of the pc and get by with the integrated rdna2 gpu until u pass him ur card.

im sure for just trading, hed be happy with just
7800x3d + basic a620/b650
decent air cooler (7800x3d sips power, a pa120 would be more than enough)
reasonably fast ram
1tb gen 4 nvme
good quality psu + case

quite meh, only upgrade vs the 1.3k rig i recommended is the cpu cooler (which isnt really needed anyway). the psu is worse, plus u can actually choose the case if u go diy. 3060ti and 6700xt performance is about equal but the 6700xt has more vram, so i would go with that.

Ok, thx! What is a good case that u would recommend? Actually if diy, I might only just get a 6650xt since the only game I might be playing is Diablo 4 lol. Looking at the invader build only cuz they seem to be able their systems with a 3060ti cheaper than diy.

IMO it's ridiculously overkill, you don't need a X670E board like that for the 7800X3D, in fact the cheapest ASRock B650M -HDV can power a 7950X comfortably

Also 4090 is really damn pricey, if you can afford it you can go for it but can also consider the 4070Ti/7900XT or 4080/7900XTX instead.

This is my recommendation based on the 3K (high performance + productivity) setup
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D + ASRock B650E PG Riptide 1093 (Dynacore, please ask them beforehand because the last time I actually bought this board from them, they don't want to carry ASRock anymore)
Among the cheaper mobos but with the B650E chipset, solid VRM, WiFi and a sensible PCIe/M.2 drive layout. Even with a 4090, you can add additional M.2 drives without removing the GPU unlike most motherboards
G-Skill Trident Z5 Neo DDR5-6000 CL32 2x16GB 279 (Dynacore)
The timings seem to be Hynix die, should be more likely to work out of the box with the EXPO profile
WD SN850X 2TB 265 (Dynacore)
Generally nice and fast PCIe4 M.2 SSD
Zotac RTX4080 Trinity OC 1792 (Dynacore)
Should still be comfortable at 4K, if you can find the ASUS TUF at about same price range can consider. Also consider the Sapphire RX7900XTX Pulse @1629 if ok with AMD.
MSI A850GF 850W PSU 182 (Bizgram)
Solid PSU, can consider ASUS Strix 850W @187 as another option
Lianli Lancool 216 130 (Dynacore)
Very cool case, can fit a 4090 easily, can also fit a 360mm rad at the top for your water cooling needs
Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360 162 (TechDeals)
Probably one of the best performing 360mm AIO out there, alternatively can consider Thermalright Peerless Assassin @75 for an air cooling option

Total 3903
Thank you so much and also to Night Raven. Cleared my heard.

B650 Aorus Elite is a more expensive board and MSI TRIO X 4080 is also likely more expensive hence the likely price increase.

Eh try asking if Aorus Pro is available as Aorus Elite PCIe layout is kinda pathetic ngl (Pro is x16/x1/x4, Elite is x16/x1/x1) , will cost more tho

Though if you don't mind the not that great PCIe layout the board is otherwise great, Solid VRM, 8 layer PCB and all

Thanks bro, really appreciate the advice. Just checking, I have no interest in rig building so if I want to go to a shop in sim lim and get everything from them so they will assemble for me, what’s the most recommended shop now? Just did a quick check and PC Themes (the go to shop years ago) seems pretty expensive..?

Doesn't include assembly, not sure if the MSI RTX4080 model is correct and if your 360 cooler is ARGB so prices might be higher

i left a few recommendations at the bottom of op in a spoiler.

im not too sure, but most of the major shops do offer assembly services. from what i hear as long as u get the parts from the same shop it will be foc, but will cost extra if u have parts from other shops. i would say just go for the shop with the cheapest parts, which in general is either dynacore or tradepac.

For the budget 1k recommended build, you recommended the ASRock MB. While many B550m budget MB does not support USB-C, there are some that do like the ASRock B550m pro4.

In this case, would there be any casing recommendation with usb-c that is below 100? Or would that only be possible during sales?

u can ownself go look at pricelist, very easy to spot less than $100 casing since most are over $100 (2 digits vs 3 digits). i took a quick look at a couple of price lists, the only ones that fit ur criteria are the jonsbo d31/d41.

Invader PC is just the "prebuilt custom" division of Dynacore to compete with Aftershock, Dreamcore, Typhoon and Mansa :s13:

I actually had suggested my friend to buy the config from Invader PC, and got them to swap the 2 x 8GB DDR5-5600 with 2 x 16GB for extra fee. He also had his case changed to another Montech case since the Sky Two wasn't in stock at the time.

The reasoning was that at the time, calculating the total, really decent stuff for the money. The Asus TUF RTX4070Ti, according to Buildzoid, had probably the best PCB among the ones he have looked at, and the Asus TUF B650M at the time looked decent as well. The PSU is worse on the Invader one but not outright terrible, Montech Sky Two has no Gamers Nexus test yet but you are gonna have 5 fans (including the Deepcool fans) so it won't be terrible. The Deepcool 240 should be about the same perf tier as the Peerless Assassin.

Also, the part selection is way better than Aftershock, closer to something that I would suggest :s13:

Based on my reading on recommendations from the pros, I think the 1st set will be the one that is recommended
Honestly at this point, given more ppl having issues with the Asus TUF B650M-Plus WiFi, I would pick Asrock B650M PG Riptide WiFi (or the ATX B650E PG Riptide WiFi) or Gigabyte B650M Aorus Elite AX instead :s13:

B650M PG Riptide is cheaper, though it has slightly worse VRM (12 stage teamed 50A DrMOS vs 12 stage teamed 60A SPS), no heatsink for second M.2. and slightly worse sound output. Most of the other feature sets are similar (7 USB, 2.5GB LAN, WiFi 6E).

B650E PG Riptide is about the same price. VRM is better (you can check Buildzoid's PCB breakdown of ASRock B650E LiveMixer, same VRM), PCIe 5 x16 slot (being a B650E board), 2 more USB ports, 3 M.2 slots (though the 3rd one slow but not crazy slow), 8 layer PCB, at the cost of worse sound output.

B650M Aorus Elite AX is slightly more expensive, similar VRM, 8 layer PCB (basically the only mATX with 8 layer), 4 more USB ports, at the cost of 1 less PCIe x1 slot and slightly worse sound ouptut.

But apparently Dynacore stopped carrying Asrock so the B650M Aorus Elite AX is a good substitute.
