with regards to the topic of infinity fabric and ram speeds and the recent update to support faster ram speeds...

which is a better pick for 1:1? 6000MHz or 6400Mhz ram?

6400 1:1 means 3200 UCLK with 2133IF, is more performant but depend much on silicon lottery, needs to max vsoc to 1.3v usually.

6000-6200 1:1 means 3000-3100 UCLK with 2000-2066 IF is much easier common, and need 1.15-1.24v vsoc.

recent update enabled 2:1 mode like Intel, usually aim for 7200-8000 ram speed with 1800-2000 UCLK, and use much lower vsoc with lower UCLK. 2:1, also just need at least 2000IF

UCLK mainly powered by vsoc, which cause the hot potato issue with X3D :o

Hi guys,

A friend of mine is going to build an entirely new AMD 7800X3D from ground up. We are in the midst of short listing reasonably good mobos to match the 7800X3D, however not too sure which ones are value for money. We prioritise good power delivery, and might do overclocking that is good for daily + gaming use, and then many I/O ports (USB).

We could seek your help by recommending maybe 4 or 5 such mobos. Thank you!
If you like to have many USB ports like USB4, USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 20Gbps... can consider Asus X670E Pro-Art. I am using it now with a 7800X3D... and gaming with a MSI 7900XTX.

i would say so.
despite the main takeaway of the video being to be wary of a620 cpu support, for the 7800x3d in particular it seems to be fixed with latest bios. i assume they would've propagated this fix to their other a620 boards too; vrm wise the hdv seems similar to the pro rs but with a much smaller heatsink and handles even the 7950x3d fine, so I wouldn't be worried about the pro rs. then again, when ur splashing this much cash for a x3d processor, a motherboard that isn't bottom of the barrel would be in order.
Yeah weird to use a premium CPU on lower end motherboard... like that may as well go for a mid-range motherboard and a entry level CPU like 7600 (non-X) first... in future then upgrade... since this is a new socket with long upgrade path ahead.

I been out of touch on PC gaming for 10+ years.

I intend to have this set up to last 5 years and learnt my lesson to keep the temperature in acceptable range, which I did not and crashed my last PC

This desktop will do nothing but just gaming for Total war series i.e 3 Kingdown older titles like Empire / Napoleon / Rome and Ace Combat.

Total Price : SGD 2,400

Appreciate any advice.

2.4k you should be able to go for a better gpu, avoid the 4060 please. You dont need a 1000W PSU

I am planning a mitx build (with is supposed to be more ex) and I can fit a 4070 in my 2.4k granted I am reusing my Samsung 970 evo+ ssd.

Asus B650i AMD 7600799
G Skill Flare X 6000MHz CL32 2x16188
Hyate Revolt 3188
BeQuiet Silent Loop 280195
Corsair SF750221
Windforce 4070899
2490

Price off Dynacore, could be cheaper if getting RAM from Amazon and waiting for online sales.

I can get the total cost down to 2,3k after cc rebates

Thanks for the advice. i am just hesitating over 4070 12gb or 3070 TI 8gb as i will be connect to my samsung smart tv instead of monitor.

i will top up a bit to get i7-13700.

Does a fan cooler or AIO is better? at cooling the GPU?

8GB Vram is not going to cut it in the next free years, there is a few videos showing the difference between 4060ti 8GB and 4060ti 16GB.

4060ti is the currently the worst valued gpu of the current gen.

The key issue is with lower fps but it's the slow textures loading in (texture pop-in)

For your budget I would allocate the budget to the GPU rather than upgrade the CPU.

Fan cooler is cheaper and more reliable, I chose AIO cos mitx is very compact and challenging to air cooler.

Though Artic Freezer is a very good line of AIO.

For pure gaming, I recommend going for ryzen 7600/asus tuf b650m combo from dynacore, very good pricing, that extra few hundred saved, can funnel towards your gpu. Not to mention, intel 14th gen is coming out in around 1 month
If really want intel, 13700 and asrock/gigabyte b760 combo is better than 13600kf/asus strix b760 at roughly the same pricing, possibly cheaper on sales date

And for 2.4k budget, you are aiming at least RTX 4070, even a RTX 4070 Ti/ RX 7900XT should be able to fit in, no reason to get RTX 4060 at this budget
Any reason why you wanna go for 2x SSD? You could have save some money on getting just one piece.
PSU is total overkill, msi mpg a750gf/asus rog strix 750w/seasonic focus gx 750w, all around 14x-15x
Thermalright PA120 is good choice for air-cooling
If you wanna go AIO cooling, I recommend topping up to AF 360. The 240 model is only 2x-3x cheaper, so no point, somemore performance roughly the same/just slightly better than TR PA120 but cost double

Appreciate the info shared by you.

Honestly, I'm using pre build function from Mansa / aftershock to come up with a set up and get advice how to improve.

my budget max at 3K to spurge on CPU and GPU and cooler.

I'm going for a ATX case to have better air flow.

more or less i start looking 12gb GPU.

I have no preference AMD or intel as long they get the job done and save $$.

I went 2 pcs ssd because 1 is for OS and 1 is for game to prolong the ssd usage.

for air cooling, i have no preference, just want an efficient cooler to keep it acceptable range.

I will heed the advice given to make the adjustment.

Since you mention mansa/aftershock, you can look at invaderpc as well, they are the pre-built branch of dynacore, their pricing very competitive and you can msg them to upgrade some parts at some cost as well

Since you have no preference for amd/intel and its purely a gaming rig, I recommend go for amd. You can save money now and go 7600, and then upgrade next time to 7800X3D or next gen 8000 series X3D, or you can go all in now straight to 7800X3D. For pure gaming, nothing touches 7800X3D currently

Alright, I will check Invaderpc.

thanks for the advice on the CPU. I will remember it.

if you are only playing older games, no real need to blow $2.4k but what is your display you are going to game on ? 4k , 1440p or 1080p? 4060 only good for 1080p.

yep as mindgamey mentioned, 2.4k is way too much for this level of build. with this budget u can get a ryzen 5 7600 + 4070 build as u can see in the first post, which will be way faster. or to put it another way, u can get a similar level of gpu performance (rtx4060 and rx7600 are basically equal) in a build with less than half the budget in the value gaming pc reco. and yes u do not need a 1000w psu, even for a 3070ti or 4070, either will work fine with a much cheaper 650w. mansa quoting u 2.4k for this is really chopping carrot head as they normally do :s22:

as mindgamey also mentioned, try to get something with more than 8gb of vram if u want to keep it for the long term. id only get the 3070ti if it's close to $500. im also not sure why u would want to spend more on a 13700 when ur use case is only gaming, especially with easy to run games.
Does a fan cooler or AIO is better? at cooling the GPU?
u mean the cpu? aio cooled gpus work well but are very expensive and usually reserved for high end cards. for cpu, a good air cooler can rival 240mm aios and the latter is only really necessary if u dont have a large case or plan to do core heavy apps. since u are just gaming, id stick with the pa120; if u want go aio best to go big and get 360mm.

overall, id recommend 2 builds from 1st post: value gaming pc reco for this level of performance (which i would lean towards), or enthusiast gaming pc reco to use up a similar budget but with way more performance, then just add on the storage as necessary.

I adjust the the set up list using dynacore list. the overall set up is $1,686 without GPU.

i not sure if 8gb is ok to play on 4k TV. I prefer tv for gaming as my samsung cheap monitor is for work.

i not too understand about GPU. looking at 3060,4070 they got 12 GB.

After a quick read up about speed, vram and CUDA Cores spec and reviews, i still unable to answer will it affect playing on a 4k tv.

let's say i will adjust the game graphic universal setting at high on 4k TV.

from dollar perspective, if a msi 4070 ti is $1,400+, getting a amd 7900 for 20gb is better?

I going to project on samsung 4k TV.
in that case your GPU better be either of these cards

Radeon RX 6800 XT
Radeon RX 6900 XT
Radeon RX 6950 XT
GeForce RTX 3090 / Ti
Radeon RX 7900 XT
GeForce RTX 4080
Radeon RX 7900 XTX
GeForce RTX 4090

On a side note, i always play total war series but haven't try projection on my tv. Should be quite fun to see blown up units on a 85" tv.

just make sure your 4k tv has at least a HDMI 2.0 port and a framerate of 60.

2.4k might be a stretch unless he goes with last gen 6xxx series and they are only avaliable online it seems.
