DNS-323 Network Storage

actually it isn't very difficult. u just download funplug's tar and script file into yr HD_a2 drive. then reboot and funplug is automatically unpacked and installed.

then u download the rest of the package and just funpkg -i filename

i think the help u needed is the configuration..

i actually tried several ways of installing from shadowandy website or others website , somehow i can't get it installed.

some from forum post it will auto telnet for first time after installation successful, i tried on my lappy (Window vista with telnet able) also on my desktop(win XP) result auto telnet won't start.

i got once fully installed w/o telnet auto start for first time but i can't create folders and installed rest of the package, i did follow step by step also took out HDD reformat it, putting it back again.

why not use the built-in bittorrent then? FW 1.06 has support for it ..

official also allow remote over mah

3rd party or official, just make sure u do ur port forwarding correctly

offcial can't be remote. my WAN 218.186.147.71, port 80, forward to 192.168.1.111.


it can be remote on local desktop when i input 218.186.147.71:80 on FireFox, but while over workplace can't access.

i can access my FTP which is port 23.

ur isp might be blocking port 80

thats why i mentioned a few times that your port forwarding needs to be done properly

try to forward something else like 12380 to port 80 of ur nas

I am looking at a NAS since my el-cheapo one (actually not that cheap since it cost $109 and had only 1 bay) died on me two weeks ago.

The DNS323 looks like a good candidate but I have a question regarding the storage format.

I read here that it is ext2 or something but when I went to Sim Lim last week, one guy told me that it can accept fat32 i.e. I can just drop in my existing HDD and start using.

The main reason why I am hesitant to get it is because I already have a 500G HDD that is >50% filled with stuff and I am too lazy to copy things out

Can someone confirm that it can work in fat32?

if its working properly in dns-323, just let it be peaceful inside...

there is alot of report that after people flashed their seagate harddisk, it's features were totally removed and achieved a new function... as paper weight..

apparently the failure is almost certain, it's just a matter of time.

so updating f/w might be a way to avoid bricking the HDD

of course, there is news that the f/w that seagate released earlier might not be the correct f/w

*sigh* can't believe this, DNS 323 is a great NAS system but marred by the HDD.

i dont see any issue with the hdd though.

you might want to try converting the fat32 hdd to ext2. it might be possible to repartition it in such a way that dns323 can use it.
