In addition of that, how to access the file at home through the internet from friend place ?

To transfer 1gb of file took me 80 mins.
Is that something wrong with my DNS 323 ?
BTW, I connect DNS 323 to Linksys WRT54G2 wireless router. My PC connect to the routher with ethernet cable.

Have just bought another 1TB harddisk to add to the DNS-323. After reading all the problems of people losing data. What is the safest way to add another harddisk to the DNS-323?

Sigh. I just bought the router 1 month ago.
Any trade in promotion ?
Sifu Shadowandy, the DNS 323 can directly plug into the pc Ethernet hole ?

You can plug directly if you know what you are doing. e.g. setting them to be on the same network.

1)
1.1) Back up your current hard disk on the DNS-323
1.2) Add your new 1TB and format
1.3) Copy your backed up data if the hard disk is accidentally formatted

OR

2)
2.1) Remove your current hard disk in the DNS-323
2.2) Add your new 1TB hard disk in the other bay and format
2.3) Plug in your old hard disk
2.4) If webui prompts for a format of hard disk, click on skip and you should still be able to access both Volume_1 and Volume_2

I tried plug in. I encounter the message limited or no connectivity.

Without any additional settings, you will encounter that. You should only connect the DNS-323 directly to your computer if and only if you know what to do and how to do.

You would need to set them on the same network before you can access DNS-323.

There are numerous usb mount guides for the DNS-323. A straight forward one can be found here.

If you are not sure of what you are doing, you may risk damaging your device.

I'll try.;)

Telnet is a protocol (just like http and ftp). The host will have a telnet server running and listening on port 23 (similar to http server listening on port 80, and ftp on port 21). The user will use a client to connect to the server (similar to your browser for http and ftp clients for ftp). A popular telnet client is PuTTY. Vista also comes with its own telnet client but not enable by default.

I had read this page few times. I can't find the usb-storage.ko for firmware 1.06.
I had upgrade to 1.06 from 1.05.

Hello Shadowandy, I had follow your instruction from the blog to install fun plug.
How to telnet ?

Search for PuTTY, download and run it. At startup, specify the IP address (ie yourr DNS-323 IP) you want PuTTY to connected and you are in.

Alternatively, enable the telnet client that comes with vista. Do this from Control Panel>Programs and Features>Turn Windows Features on or off.
