Hello all any updates on these instructions above. Previous versions working like a gem. But wonder the latest Transmission, Funplug and Clutch will bring any advantages. Cos I intend to add a new HDD to my 323 but very scared it will mess up my volumes and therefore causing my now wonderful 323 Clutch to stop working. Anyway posted some questions for ShadowAndy hope he free to reply me.

Just found out from http://wiki.dns323.info/information:known_issues
That DNS323 will sabo u big time when replacing drives.

Once cover open the 323 will prompt u reformat. Even when displaying the correct info on the setup and u selected the correct drive etc.....it will reformat the wrong drive and wipe out all ur data.

So see the link for solutions with calculated risk. Meanwhile I too scared to open the 323 and will leave as it is lah.

What u ppl think.

Linux ext3 FTW. REAL journal filing systems don't need to be defragged. DNS323 is using ext3 filesystem.

Adding an extra disc can wipe data on existing drive!
Firmware: 1.03, 1.05, 1.06 are all confirmed
Severity: High
Description: Consider you have one disk installed in the right hand bay, when looking at the front cover of the DNS-323. Now insert a second drive in the left bay while the device is powered off. After powering up the web interface will prompt “Your new, second hard drive will now be formatted. The existing harddrive will not lose any data.” It will display the vendor/model/serial number and size of the second drive. However if you press “next” it will format the first disk in the right bay.
Remarks: Slight variations to this procedure might not result in this bug. For example starting with the first drive being installed in another bay or hot adding (= while being powered on) drives.
Workaround: Don't have other disks installed when formating a new drive. Boot bay with just the new drive installed, format, power off, reinstall first disk afterwards. If volume numbering and network shares mess up, you can still swap drives. Or search forum for manually formating drives

I have an existing 500GB and wanted to add another 1TB

here's what I did, I pull out the 500GB, inserted the new 1TB, webpage ask for format, so formatted it, then after format, restart.. then shutdown
then, reinserted the old 500GB without removing the new 1TB
started it and all is OK..

Yeah. This is the safest way to do it.

Yeah, I learnt it the hard way when I added a new hdd the last time. All data gone. Ext2 formatted hdd are not easy to recover without backup of the partition/file tables.

So i follow this method, and upon having the new drive installed, i will need to map the new drive again rite. I am on Standard configurations. Say i only have Volume1 now. And the new one is volume2.

yes, the new drive will be on Volume2, if not, shutdown and swap them

on may case, volume2 is the new large one, so I amended the UserID on NetworkAccess and "FTPserver on the Advanced webpage to point to the new drive,
With this, I didn't even have to reconfigure my external mediaplayer(xbox) and laptop

bro, go to your dlink web console > Advance Tab > uPnP AV server > make sure that your AV service is enabled then changed the folder access to another sub folder instead of "root" or "Volume_1"

now i'am able to stream my AV files from my NAS to my PS3.. and i didnt bother to install any 3rd party apps on my ps3 nor my dlink dns-323 device..

hope this help.
my answers here shot too fast.
