Has anyone encountered dropouts when watching video and listening to mp3 stored on the DNS-323? It happens on both my desktop and laptop. Desktop connected via 1000base-T and laptop connected via wireless-N. Using a DIR-655 router. The dropouts seem to occur only when the FTP server within the DNS-323 is turned on though. Does the DNS-323 not have enough processing power to handle both tasks concurrently? It happens even when I don't have any clients connected to the FTP server.

hey guys,
just wondering why this doesn't work?

i'm trying to download a file from remote ftp, by running a schedule download through DNS-323, with DIR655.
When i click the Test buton, it can find the file on the remote ftp server, but when I try to start downloading, it is always error-ing out in its download?

is there any additional config I need to enable?

Hey guys,

Just thought of informing your that DNS323 Firmware 1.08 will be out soon.
Exact date i'm not sure. But i like to ask is it ok to do firmware upgrade from
official dlink website in the US, instead of the local one?

yes it's ok to upgrade to 1.08.. the dns-323 hardware sold in US or elsewhere is the same here.
just backup your data before the upgrade :)

Hi All. I am new to the NAS thingy. Interested in buying the 323 or 343. Sorry for the noob questions but hoping someone can clarify these terms for me.

1. Difference btw NFS, SMB and Upnp. Which one to use and which one is the fastest. I tried reading up a bit on this but still confusing. I notice 323 supports only SMB and UpnP. Is having NFS mandatory?
I intend to buy a media player like xtreamer or playonHD and stream from the NAS.

2. Also read on the forums that SMB is slower than NFS for streaming HD content. Is this true?

Thanks for your time.

For non-enterprise class Western Digital HDDs... anyone bother enabling TLER (Time Limited Error Recovery) on the HDDs using the WDTLER tool?

Used to encounter RAID dropouts and have to resync, but not recently - wonder if it was caused by WD HDDs going into deep error recovery which can last up to 2 mins. TLER is supposed to limit the recovery to default 7 seconds.

Anyone knows what is the timeout duration before the DNS-323 actually drops a drive from the RAID set.

Just upgraded my seagate 500gb hd to 1T WD green.
Notice that it does not spin down, 2 days later when i notices it, it would get quite warm and it seems to be spinning all the time but there's no activity light.
Reboot, still the same.
Is there a way to check what's going on here?

it's quite a common issue even at it's latest 1.07 firmware, i set it 15mins spin down it will spin up by itself even when there's no activity. can only hope for this issue to be fixed in new firmware releases.

Wow! didn't know it's a common issue....
Still on fw1.05, so i guess I might as well wait for 1.08, if it fixes this issue.
Waste a lot of electricty man.... and I guess it'll even shorten my HDD life as it doesn't spin down at all.

The build in BT is slow. To speed things up, most user will install Transmission on it. Read this post for info on how to install Transmission and goto shadowandy site for more read up on DNS-323.

hi can i check i am using 2wire 2700 mio modem but it is having problem with my new nas 323. i can ftp inside my network but i cant ftp outside my network unless i enable DMZPLUS mode.

Already tried to port forward using 2wire configuration page but all port dont work unless i use dmzplus then i can connect outside my network

Tried
1077
40000
21
1025
1035

Is DMZPlus mode safe to turn on without HDD being hacked?

I already went through countless reading with no answer

Thanks

Probably throughout your countless reading, you missed out the solution posted by GaMeRz on page 60+.

There are also scripts that work around the issue.
