Surge protection is just another gimmick household gadget.

Probably useful in other countries where the quality of electrical supplies are poor.

In SG, our electrical supplies are better.

For example, ceiling fan motors sold in Msia are not lifetime warranty whereas in SG, they are usually lifetime warranty.

IMO another gimmicky product is water filtration system.

i have a personal experience which i cannot really understd wat happened i'm no electric expert.

there is a particular wall 2 sockets in my kitchen next to the fridge, in 5 years, 2 ovens, 2 electric pots died ( i did checked not fuse problem).

i was told that it could due to electrical surge so i went get a surge protector just for that 2 socket which are now used a airfryer and electric kettle pot, so far they survived.

Nope. It doesn't. Cuz u have the fuse as a surge protector (13A) incorporated in every plug. So ur additional surge protector probably use a narrower limit, maybe 5A?

supposedly every small surge, even if it does not destroy the equipment, weakens the lifespan of the electronic. so, with surge protectors, it nullifies those and it extends lifespan some. Thats the argument. Unsure if it is so. Anyway, surge protectors cost a little more than a powerstrip. Might as well go for it. The argument is possible to me. Online, some say it holds water, some say it doesnt. Who knows.

My HDB also for many years power trip when got lightning strike but other HDB units no issue. People keep saying its our appliance so we waited for many years and finally changed all the appliances but still trip. End up we try change ELCB ourselves and problem solved

Same I also wonder why trip when there is dark cloud only . I thgt is the lighting rod place too close to us . Than change the box than knwoniy the box damaged as statics increase will trip the breaker
