By the way KOK must ask elites like Beta_tester because he eats it mah. Dont know where he go liao.. Suddenly stop posting after saying gan hai is a rare breed. Must be busy eating KOK.

Anyway from my knowledge , i only ate it at the farms
In raub bentong etc and the farmer told me only the freshest and oldest and those msw that grow on high hills are the best and warrant a high price tag , so i guess it nust be the KOK... When i ate them, fuyooo.... Foodgasm LOL! Best part was its free hahaha....

Maybe u should request for the online sources to point out where is Mao Shan on the malaysia map. Long ago in one of my durian threads, i shared the origins of MSW. Actually from Gua Musang in Kelantan of northen msia. However, online sources indicate the D197 aka MSW is registered in Tanah Merah, Kelantan... So even myself dont know which is which so i just follow whatever the farmer told me haha.. Cheers!

Even our durian sexpert only ate it at the farm. I really think 99% of those KOK sold here in sg are to chop carrot. Once I asked a stall at potong pasir (am a regular there) what is KOK and to reserve for me, since I saw he has the KOK label. He smiled and advise me to get the regular MSW.

Both of us are doing fine. Just not so much eating durian nowadays.

Good to see you around the durian thread here too.

No need to salute the durian seller, I think he put the KOK label to chop others non-regulars, not really an angel. :s13:

botak kho at bukit batok msw $15 per kg :( go ah seng seems better

Not trying to take sides or promote for anyone but price would be a secondary concern for me.

Primary concern would be the supply, I rather get durian from a stall that has its supply from a single source rather than mix of sources. Reason is simple, the QC and reliability of the former mentioned is higher.

Think about it, why 717, 818, Combat and Sindy (for eg) are so successful and have such a huge fan base? Reason is simple, they built a long lasting relationship with their supplier already. As such, quality is stable evdn though there are some misses. Nothing is perfect. U want perfect, go to the farms, reason being is perfection is defined by freshness in my opinion.

A stall I mentioned here gets his supply from multiple sources, quality and reliability of supply is thus unstable. To an extent where the seller himself is unable to control the quality. People say for investment, its wise to diversify and not put all ur eggs in one basket.

Me say for durian sellers, diversification is disasterous if u cant control ur supply. While its good consumers are given a wide choice of durians. From experience, I'd rather stick to the specialist or old timers with not too much variety to get quality and my money's worth.

MSW is graded by 2 important factors shape and weight. Good shape ie kidney and fat rugby, 1.8-2.5kg are usually classified AAA. And most imptly, grown on the hilltops. Sad to say these are usually exported to China and HK with SOME shipped to our shores. Basically KOK = Better Quality MSW with the abovementioned characteristics and of super duper freshness as its harvested and sent to SG straight.

Ohya the MSW i ate at the farm are aged 30yrs old on average. Really KOK to the max as its OLD and FRESH. As sych, the old adage of "Old is Gold" sure holds true for such MSW. Having said that, I can bet u a Green Bamboo or D24 with the age of 30yrs and given the same terrain and TLC will be much much more mesmerizing. Case in point, age plus soil condition plus location are big factors that are detrimental to a durian's quality.
