Simply have to weigh in on this topic :s13:

There are quite simple remedies to eczema without going down the corticosteroids route - ranging from TCM, ginger to aloe vera creams etc. Applying anything externally is a waste of time. Rashes / Eczema / rough patches on skin / psoriasis are all manifestations of something out of whack internally.

The most common cause is Intestinal permeability - something that you're mildly allergic to, or an overgrowth of a pathogen is causing irritation of the epithelial tissue of the gut. Normally a healthy individual would have gut bacteria coating the entire digestive tract - but this population is greatly reduced in most of us now because of antibiotics and the gut becomes semi-permeable. The result is compounded by incomplete digestion as protein solutes enter the bloodstream, which the immune system recognises as foreign and launches a IgG response against it. Mast cells then degranulate, releasing a ton of histamine, which causes breakouts on the skin. An IgE response likely co-exists at the same time.

In such a case, one would realise certain foods trigger a breakout (not all foods trigger an IgG response - only those that appear in the bloodstream too often), and this problem may have started after a course of antibiotics (or even when they were young), or after a case of the stomach flu.

Digestive problems are therefore very common among those with skin problems (constipation, diarrhea etc.)

And yes... I have a pretty good idea on how to treat it without resorting to atarax, prednisolone, anti-histamines etc. :s22:

I have been "treating" my eczema with dermovate cream. It stops the itch at the very least. I kinda know what my trigger is; wheat. Anything to do with wheat, noodle, bread, beer and my stomach do get irritate easily I "think". What would you suggest to strengthen the lining of the digestive tract?

there isn't a 'best' clinic for it. some ppl see a certain doc and recovered, others find it no use.
just get ur GP to give u referral. try first, doesn't help then try other doctors

I was hit by it last year too, it was around my lips.

I went to skin centre and they gave me cream to apply.

So how was the cream? Effective?

I am not too impressed with NSC, for me they always prescribe steroids. I stopped going when I realised the creams stopped working after a few visits.

I should update on my condition. Ketoconazole (antifungal, not a steroid) seems to have decreased in effectiveness, perhaps the yeast is building up resistance? Sea salt with trace elements plus TCM herbal vinegar soak is still very effective for me. Now trying bentonite clay for external and internal detox. For moisturisers I use 'horse oil', aka urea cream. Non greasy and works well.

Still on the search for a cure.

Did you experience any side-effects using Ketoconazole?

Hi guys. Eczema sufferer here as well. It started off in 2010 and ever since then, I have been visiting NSC quite often. All they can prescribe me are antihistamines and stronger steroid creams. Over time, the steroids creams are no longer effective as it is before, causes skin thinning too. My skin breaks very easily now when scratched. I have it all over my body, hands and forearms being the worst. Worst of all, I work in the healthcare field, those alcohol handrubs make my eczema x100000 times worse. Currently I am using Fobancort + Aveeno moisturising lotion + physiogel shower lotion. Am thinking of letting go the steroid creams but I'll get a bad flare if I let go. :(

I mentioned earlier in this thread that I no longer visit NSC due to their lack of treatment methods.

My current methods are great at curbing the symptoms without steroid usage.

1) probiotics consumption.
2) food grade bentonite clay for internal and external detox.
3) Herbal vinegar handsoak (from gingko tcm) with sea salt added.
4) Ketoconazole (anti fungus, not recommended for large areas of skin).
5) variety of supplements cause the food nowadays have degraded in nutrient density.
