Lol your earlier posts compared with BKK !!
Trying hard to change goalposts??

Anyway, like i said, if $6- $8 meals need to worry, then SGP is not for you.
Your own situation does not represent situation of others.
BKK is just a base example cos someone ask me about COL in BKK, if u read back, i CLEARLY SAY I WILL GO TO MY GF HOMETOWN.

Thailand have 70+ provinces for you to choose to retire. Not just BKK.

you stay in SG sua,

not yet retiring.

now saving up for retirement. I still need to pay off my current 3rm flat (in 4 years time) so I can fully utilise it as rental income for retirement. target to retire at 55, still a couple of years away. I will then spent my rental income in Thailand for retirement (probably just need half of it and saved the other half), no need to touch my savings, and my CPF payout time comes, I have 3 source of income (saving & investments + rental income + CPF payout).

i will not be retiring in BKK cos the cost of living there is rising also but instead i will move up north to my gf's hometown instead. i don't mind staying in the country side, less stress, more scenic and chill.

i already planned my Thailand exploration map to spent my retirement. Will buy a toyota hilux and do road trips within Thailand, maybe become a Thailand trip "influencer", or do a small airbnb with tour service.

Thailand retirement visa is easy to apply, just need a $30k~ SGD bank account to open in Thailand. Then you get yearly retirement visa (renew every year and maintain that $30k~ SGD bank account in Thailand).

@Little turtles sh it stirrer go read carefully.

BKK.........
1. Heavily congested, much worse than SGP
2. Communication issues
3. Weather even hotter and equally humid
4. Weed issues
5. Less safe..... recent school shootout, following US style
6. Strrets are heavily polluted
Etc

Anyway, if one needs to worry about $6 -$8 meals, then Singapore is not an ideal place to retire. Make no mistake about this. This type of food pricing is already lower than Australia, North America, Europe, Scandinavian countries
This post lah..... why you refer to all other unnecessary posts
Lo.

Plan to retire next year at 51yo. have done many simulation to arrive at this possibility.
Will rely on my own savings until reach 55, then use OA to top up every few months. When reach 65, my CPF LIfe + own annuities i will die with a few hundred K (assuming @ 90 years old)

no more mortgage. only uncertainties;
1. own health (Medisave maxed out currently)
2. Dependent University 2028 to 2032
3. Mum still alive , at least 10 years more.

@Little turtles sh it stirrer go read @cyke69sg question about BKK COL question.

DOESN'T MEAN I WILL RETIRE IN BKK.

for you worry freak like you, stay in SG sua.

me not that worry like you, i just want to extend my SGD longer and yet enjoy life retiring at 55. doesn't mean I worry about $6-8 meals. i dun need to blindly chase 1M to retire, my target is just $300-400K SGD i can happily retire at 55. Don't envy me, cos I am not scaredy cat like you.

At 55 (just having $300-400k savings) , i can afford to retire. cos I can rent out my SG home for $3k per month and don't even need to use up $3k in Thailand. I can use just $1.5k. And when I hit retirement age, I still have my compounded savings + investment + rental income + CPF payout.

You leh? still stuck working perhaps at 60s. you may have more savings to me by then, but I already enjoyed at least 15 years of carefree retirement lifestyle, while you just started, maybe a bit weaker now to enjoy also.

LOL
Thailand is a good option for 50 and above with the retirement visa, but before that need elite visa assuming no local spouse route.

Definitely will stretch $ more, I believe that SG will become more and more expensive down the road.

yes, either elite visa or DTV (provided if u have remote work or attend some courses in Thailand) if u want to go earlier.

@Little turtles will stay in SG since he feel SG is the safest, cleanest, less jam, not worry about $6-8 meals (maybe $20 next time in another 15-20 years) in future, zero weed (funny this reason - not like asking u to take weeds lol), non polluted streets.

for me, these concerns to me is minor as compared to better quality of lifestyle in Thailand then in SG. Don't need to work for others is already an upgrade in lifestyle.

yes anyway dun need elite visa... retirement visa is good enough.

else DTV if you want a longer visa. https://www.thaievisa.go.th/visa/dtv-visa

if you are already freelancing , and can work anywhere, mai tu liao, just apply DTV and move to Thailand, you have 5 years to decide if you want to retire there.

or if you are single, find a thai gf, then get married and get a spouse visa lol, can learn Thai language at the same time.

Hate to pour cold water.

We had a fantastic long bull run, and may continue a few more years perhaps. It might give an illusion that your portfolio is growing faster than you consumed.

If your portfolio is half now, passive income also half, how will it be? Still very comfortable with daily expenses? Then OK..

dats why i dun put all money into investments... prefer cash on hand. still the king.

for me, my target is $300-400k savings and a fully paid flat when i reach 55.

maybe just $100k into investment, the remaining $250k i just put in SSB for 10 long years (after 10 years, about time to collect CPF payout liao) since I don't need to use my savings yet for retirement as i will have rental income. then standby $50k for emergencies.

no kids to pass down money, so no point to hit ERS, FRS is good enough.
The max amount you can invest in SSB is 200K.
