So many things can do.

Wake up any time you want.
Avoid crowd.
Slower pace.

Go gym, go exercise. Water the plants.
Go on more frequent short trips. Clean the house. Watch / re-watch your fav drama movies.

If your friends also retired. Can go out meet up stay out late.

Learn to cook something new.

Get a pet.
Sounds grounded and peaceful.
Everyone has their own preferences.
One can also switch around and make things varied. 👍

I have plans to relocate to thailand after i retire too..

right now exploring visa options.
i think OA is my only viable option though or just do short visits of close to 30 days, then back in SG for one month or so, then repeat, but this will incur repeated airfare cost and make accommodation complicated

not sure if i will rent out my hdb, as i hate to imagine the mess that will be left behind by tenants

I think BKK is only good for short visit and not for long stays unless one lives in the suburbs.. bangna, bangwa, nonthaburi etc. basically away from the tourist areas. cheaper, less busy, less traffic, more local...

For now, I have shortlisted chiang mai, udon thani or khon kaen.
May I know why Udon Thani?
I was there and the red lotus lake was amazing, but I dont know the city itself much hence my question

TS how old?
i am looking to retire below 50 but it looks funny to retire when all my peers are still working and kids still studying.

i feel we only live our lives during retirement, do things u like and also lead a healthy lifestyle.

When we work, we cannot have time or energy to exercise, choose and cook healthy food.

work is always rushing to commute, no time to exercise, da bao unhealthy lunch and dinner when pass by. reach home do housework. really meaningless.
IF it suits you, retire earlier better.
While life expectancy could be 80+, but health expectancy is only in the 70+.

All these are great places for retirement.
But some things to consider.
- language barrier
- natural disaster
- healthcare
- transport

all my friends discussing to retire in Malaysia, but i think i wont get used to it.

at most just stay there a few weeks and come back.

the good thing abt SG is everything u need is around the neighbourhood. when population density is high, u get to see people, neighbours and friends when u leave ur house. i feel this is warming.

if i live alone in a big house in malaysia, come out walk and barely see anyone, i feel depressing and isolated. especially when u have free time to spare but nothing much u can do or interact.
just another thought... if and when you stay-in a place in MY (including JB)
- you will slowly get to know your surroundings
- you will start to like it better, over time, bcos you found more and more things you like.
- neighbour/friends likewise, as long as you reach out, join certain activity groups.
- In general, Makies are more approachable/friendly than sinkies

I am retired in Calgary.
It is a nice city. Only about an hour drive to the Rocky mountains. Lots of natural beauty and tons of activities to do.

When did you visit Calgary? Not a common spot for Singaporeans to visit as it is out of the way. Will need to either drive from Vancouver or Fly from Vancouver to Calgary. Extra traveling. But I think it is worth the travel.
Ya correct I drove from vacoucher tru Alberta, Calgary, Banff, the lakes, Rocky mountain, Columbia icefield, then Jasper.. >20 years ago couldn't remember exactly.

2. hawker food is no longer affordable, price has been increasing as well. You know, BKK street food or non touristy place is half the price of a hawker food. The same plate of chicken rice is only $2.50 in BKK and SG is $4 (some place still selling $3.50 but lesser and lesser), some hawker food (newer gen stall owners) even sell their food at $7-8! Look at those recent hype hokkien noodles, no $6 no talk. Once those old time stall owners close shop, those new gen will not sell you this kind of price anymore due to high rental cost.
The median salary in Bangkok is somewhere in the S$800 range. Need to put this into perspective.

12mins long

Thank you for sharing. I watched the whole video.
Very nicely explained.
Ikigai.
I am very blessed to have found my Ikigai. The strangest part is how only after attaining financial independence was when I found PERMA and Ikigai and in that whole process was also when the little activity I do as work also earns me the highest I have ever had in my entire life yet only with very minimal time commitment.

Strange how life works. I do agree that reaching financial independence is probably the first step so your mind is free to choose and not be held back by financial commitments

thats why u need to plan things to do, not just stay at home whole day.

in Malaysia, u can do road trips/travel ard Malaysia? Malaysia is so big, south got JB close to SG, center got KL, Melaka, up north got Penang and Ipoh, West side of Malaysia got Mersing and Kuantan, can fly to other side of Malaysia like Sabah. just plan every month visit one area and stay there for 2-3 weeks, surely you will not be bored anymore.
yes, and more can be explored
- Taman Negara
- Tasik kenyir
- Ipoh has nice cave tubing
- Kedah sidim river
- Trengganu many beautiful islands

But Thailand/Vietnam would be better.

I thought I recognized the first ice climb route right away when I saw it! It is Borgeau Left hand. Access is from the Sunshine Village Ski resort car park.

I have seen that wall so many times when I take the gondola to go ski at Sunshine Village!

Not sure if I would ever do ice wall climbing though.

I think I still prefer to ski.
