The port in process seems rather long for my 2nd card today. Activated yesterday at about 3pm. At about 11pm received SMS have successfully activated my line and at the same time my Vivifi card got no more signal, so swop out to Eight sim card.

Only today morning at about 9am then received SMS port-in request successful, so the whole night my main number got no way to use.

Does Eight have something similar to Simba’s ?

For example if I am in Thailand and I wish to call back to Singapore, I can simply use Simba’s Voice App?
that's the only 1 good thing about simba..they use totally VOIP for calls ..only they have the voip app....
calling back to SG isn't IDD.

This is my experience:
Local Data 297.63 GB of 588 GB
Malaysia Roaming Data 33.55 GB of 58 GB
APAC Roaming Data 12 GB of 12 GB
Intl Roaming Data 6 GB of 6 GB
Current Cycle Expiry: 08/11/2024

Started on 9th Oct. time now is 4am 27 Oct.
Router is Deco x50 5G
1. Streaming YouTube videos using Smartube on Android TV box at 720p 30fps 1-2 Mbps (at least 9 hours daily) or mixed with movie apps which consumes around 1 GB per hour and football on weekends (unable to select video resolution, mostly HD)
2. Another smarttube stream on another TV at 720p 30fps 1-2Mbps (at least 3 hours daily)
3. 2 laptops did large windows 11 updates
4. 12 things linked to Google (TV, lights, aircon etc) uses minimal data
2 nights in JB, so no local data used

In short, 17days 290GB.
720p might not be good enough on larger TVs without upscaling.
Have to sacrifice 4K resolution movies
Some movie apps pre-buffers, so if I rewind, it pre-buffers again and consume extra data.
Thanks for the report!
Can I ask how much you bought the Deco X50 5G and where you bought it from?

i don’t know if to get the 5G or 4G.. I guess if buy 5G can future proof but I think these electronic stuff at most last 3 years? So if last 3 years and eight is still on 4G, can still upgrade to 5G router after 4G router spoils

my parents’ streaming video usage is limited to YouTube and some stock market software live streaming app. So I’m guessing 588GB should be enough based on comparison with your usage since we don’t stream movies over apps like Netflix or link up to 4k TV. Though need some buffer bandwidth in case I need to do software updates.

@Habrosus I remember you have a data plan with eight? So data plan use email to log into MyAccount?

coz if my father use eight for home broadband, it will only be for home broadband, so was thinking if I should get the data plan instead of talk time plan.

any other differences between data plan and talk time plan apart from logging into MyAccount without SMS OTP?

Hmm, I guess his issue is if the Sim card put inside router for broadband, then everytime have to put back into phone to get sms otp, quite leceh. So maybe Data Sim dont need sms otp or is it email otp?

349 from challenger. I plan to use it till it dies, so hopefully more than 3 years. Deteriorating speed is not a concern as long as I can stream youtube without buffering.

Functons are ok, can see data usage, can manually change band, lock cell tower, can read sms from the Deco app. I made a call to the sim and it did not disconnect the internet.

Speedtest is consistently about 20-100mbps on band 3, 60mbps on B7, 20mbps on B8. Speeetest with the same sim in phone is 180mbps.

My intention was actually to port my Simba $10 eSIM in an iPad to Eight $8 eSIM, but that'd mean I won't be able to log into my account since OTP can't come through in the iPad.

So next alternative would be to get Eight's data plan (which has no number) as it uses email to log in. But it'd also mean I can't park my number there... Still WIP.

Ah, the same OTP issue then.

I'll have to look up what I shared here from their FB post before. It's through email, but "something" in the email.... BRB

Found it! The login for their data plan...

Saw this in FB about the Tablet plan.

You can sign-up our data only plans here: https://www.eight.com.sg/tourist-sim

These comes with a long number which can be used to sign-in. The OTP details will be sent to your email and using that you can manage your account. https://account.eight.com.sg/

Have you guys encountered when signing up from authorised retailers a.k.a bengz shop, asking $10 for $8 eight plan?

Was looking around some shops and when I asked them, they all ask for $10.

Not wanting to risk that, I signed up online and chose one of the retailers in their SIM Pick up Points list.

They'll send SMS and email with your number and activation code (and link to list of points), just need to give both info to the retailer to pick up the SIM card. No extra charge.

And using SingPass is a bliss!

Boycott these 2 shops:

Boon Lay Place

Blk 221 Boon Lay Place #01-196
Blk 221 Boon Lay Place 01-202

Attempted to charge me $10 for $8 plan. When asked why there is an extra $2,

#01-202 said it's an admin charge, port-in charge. If you can take it, then pay $10.
#01-196 just do not want to disclose say it's $10. kthxbye
