for me, the main draw is the roaming.
for $8, i get 10GB APAC roaming and its a no-brainer.
tried it in BKK last year and it worked very well.

the new $11.80 plan with 8GB Intl roaming is even better.

for local 288GB data, i have used it for hot spot multiple times connecting to laptop and it always works well.
downside is when underground MRT is in transit to the next stop, the connection is always very slow or at times non-existent - that does not really bother me though but if its important to you, then this is the downside.

and oh, 288 mins IDD talktime also came in useful unexpectedly. had to make a unplanned call to Japan last year and i did not have to worry about $$/charges at all. the call connection was pretty smooth too.
for the free 288 mins IDD, can I make calls to local numbers while overseas or make calls back to Singapore numbers?

Scroll up /back a couple of pages at most, IIRC it's yesterday that someone shared a link to a post explaining this stuff. Either here or the Simba thread.

I didn't read coz I either use WhatsApp or call straight, since I hardly call, anyway.

Anyone knows if you can sign up and activate eight’s eSIM while you are overseas?

signing up might not be an issue as you can do via website, but not sure about activation. I recall reading something about must be in SG, but i cant find that in FAQ anymore

By right not able to activate overseas to prevent fraud, also Eight service centre do advise to activate only in SG to prevent any possible issues arising.
I've not tried with Eight, but for CL, activated eSIM while overseas and it worked fine.

When you sign up via esim, it is activated immediately, regardless of whether you scan the QR code.
I was able to do so overseas, but I do recall seeing in the FAQ that you need to be in SG.
YMMV.

So you upgraded while still on the $8 billing cycle?

So is it better to wait for 1st day of new cycle or wait till last day before new cycle start to upgrade ?
Yes, since my renewal is on 02 APR, decided to renew to try.
Now it's reflecting the new Fortune plan @ $11.80/mth.
I shall try the downgrade, likely only by next cycle when renewing on 02 MAY, then reflect back to the $8/mth plan.

Let's see if this is how it works or whether it's like what @Habrosus shared, that it will upgrade and reflect immediately.
Since I didn't see the upgrade reflecting after my upgrade.

After you upgrade they never auto cut $11.80?

For hotspot sharing. It depends location. Mine Eight seems slower then other Simba line. Last time Eight is faster. Recently Eight drop speed. :D

maybe offline games or shows are downloaded to phone
Still can be online on the whole, just a few seconds to a minute's stoppage here and there. Good intervals to ensure one doesn't miss a stop to get off the train. :s13:

Tried calling back to sg from taipei recently. Call were a hit a miss with both eight and simba (have to keep toggling airplane mode) until I get a dial tone when calling.

Drove up to KL yesterday and came back today. Data kept becoming unavailable frequently and had to toggle airplane mode to bring it back.

  • For local customers, ensure that you activate your QR code in Singapore before traveling overseas.
  • For tourists, your service will only become active after you reach Singapore.

As expected, request not successful, even though my renewal has not started and its an 'advance payment'. In Eight terms, its called 'stacked plan'.

So lesson learnt, dun be gei kiang like me and go 'recharge' early - pay in advance for the next renewal that has yet to start.
I think here will have people who will umbrage cos we top up renewals (not main balance) for 12 mth max.
Afaik their system can only hold up to 12 mths of advance plan package renewal + the current mth makes 13 in the hole.

Speaking for myself haha lol

How does that benefit? Topping up main balance letting it auto recharge is different?

What I tried to circumvent this issue is to force 4G and it's working fine. I guess the phone is trying to connect to 5G often and it will get disconnect from the cell tower intermittently.
