if you are thinking to switch to eight, think twice. Eight and giga 4G is the same.

If you feel starhub mvno is slow, can consider other telcos within the same price range. Like zym plans or simba.

The price is different, especially on the senior plan. For example, 8 Mb/s (sustained) is easily good enough for 720p video streaming, e-mail, maps, audio streaming, WhatsApp, Instagram browsing, etc., etc. If that’s a decent enough speed for what you do, why pay any more than you have to?

It’s a value question, that’s all. Some people like Eight’s particular value equation, some don’t.

That’s an assumption, not in evidence from what’s written. An equally valid interpretation is, “I’m getting less than 10 Mb/s on Giga. I might as well switch to Eight and save a couple bucks.”

If the poster would like to clarify, fine, but don’t jump to conclusions not yet in evidence.

Not a given! 5G won’t do anything for a 4G device, and/or it’s possible StarHub’s 4G network offers the best available service in the poster’s challenging location.

That would only work if the places frequently visited have good coverage by the respective telco.
if the coverage is not good, there is little to discuss for speed.

I was one of those who made the switch from giga to eight. Partly was because the giga network felt unreliable and another reason was to simply look for better value.

There were also a bunch of promotions and generous bonus topups back then so a switch was easy decision.

I’ve been on eight for about 9 months. They give me 70-100mbps at home and outdoors consistently. Big roaming data allowance is like the icing on the cake!

The only notable issue is underground trains which most telco will have problems with anyway.

Value means the whole performance-features-price equation. A switch from Giga to Eight likely won’t affect performance (data throughput) but will likely affect features (especially roaming allotments) and price. A switch to another network (that’s not StarHub’s 4G network) may or may not improve data throughput and will typically involve feature and price differences. I don’t know what the best answer is for GrandJedi. Maybe Eight is, maybe not. But, to be most helpful, it’s best not to assume information not yet in evidence and to lay out the various considerations. Also, it’s not too difficult or expensive to take another SIM/eSIM for a test drive. For Eight it’s either $5 or $8 depending on one’s age.

Serving 200+ passengers all trying to watch 4K video on ~6 inch ~2K screens from the same train hurtling through a tube, while similar trains with 200+ data sucking passengers move in the other direction in an adjacent tube, is…not easy! I’m exaggerating a bit, but it’s something like that.

Knock your video down to 720p or (better) 480p, or even better yet download your video at home before you set off, then enjoy the ride. (And please use earphones!) You’ll still get your WhatsApp messages on your ride. “Be reasonable,” basically. Or take the bus.

For the past Eight promo e.g. Top up $28 get total $38 credits (May) & Top up $68, Get $88 (Aug), they always mentioned "This offer excludes auto-recharge customers."

What does that mean? If my Auto-Recharged is enabled, means I'm not eligible for the promo unless I disable the Auto-Recharge?

For this current Top up $28 and get $38 (Free $10 Credit) (Aug) promo, they don't have such clause.
