I think Eight comes handy for its VoLTE calls when roaming overseas. I’m travelling to China in November, gonna be porting over to Eight next week.

Aside, I’ll be getting China data eSIM from Shopee, costing $9 for 15GB.

No problem accessing, able to send, receive and even make calls on Whatsapp.

That is a picture I pull off the internet to show you what it looks like.
Wifi calling is meant to work without cellular, so you can be sure that it is not dependent on reception.
On iOS you actually need airplane mode for it to work unless you are in a location with poor reception, since iOS prefers cellular over wifi for voice connection. On Android you can select your preference.

I am have been using it for 4 years for work related calls so I can be sure it does works well.
If you choose not to believe that is your freedom.

As far as I know all MNOs have it. (Simba works on Android only)
just about all starhub based MVNO (except no info on Cuniq)
Maxx and zero1 has it as well.

The China data eSIM is for the main internet connection, this is the same arrangement I used in Japan. Eight is used to receive normal calls from SG. I still have friends who doesn't make calls via OTT applications.

Get those china esim from Shopee sellers that advertise support for Facebook WhatsApp, it’s quite cheap too.

There’s another type of china esim that’s more expensive a bit but it will support ChatGPT and other AI apps too.

Those packages from Shopee can be used in China without the need for VPN connection. If want those more atas resellers, e.g. CM Link or ICC, it’s more expensive but serve the same purpose. The last I tried was from CML, paid about $11 for 10GB.

I’m not referring to those eSIM purchase locally in China.

Ic. Dun like to use vpn. It is slower and unstable. Prefer native data.
