My colleagues quite a few 20yo+ also never heard of Eight, ZYM, Zero1, Vivifi, maxx, even though they subscribe to m1

I told them since you all always go JB for beauty might as well subscribe to Eight, they said rather pay $5/mth for roaming than use unknown Eight

They only know gomo, giga, circles, simba and 3 traffic lights

Yea same sentiments for my circle of 20+ friends also, their knowledge of MVNO are gomo, giga, circles, myrepublic. Some know Maxx due to frequent ads on social media.

Could it be for GenZ habits of spending money? They are the also the fruit hardcore so by saving a little from mobile plans are too negligible compared to their expenditures.

Let's not degrade certain age group ;)

My bias sample size shows them using cheaper mvno like m1 maxx / simba / eight for the ones paying the cost themselves and full mno or giga / gomo for those whose parents are paying.

Lets leave out those promos like 1 for 1 or 3 / 6 months FOC as those are outliers promo

These mindset of finder cheaper or "better" alternatives or "heck care, i stay in comfort zone" exist in both young and old.

Indeed, but in general, it is not discrimination just a phenomenon one can easily observe in public places like eateries, malls, etc. 🤓

To them giga gomo circles are considered value for money compared to the Big 3 traffic light telcos, and those 3 are the few MVNO pioneers as well so they stick to those.

I seen some use Simba cos of its roaming benefits which is quite relevant as gen Z are frequent travellers too. Simba quite smart to introduce roaming benefits as a standard in their plans.

Seems like EIGHT $8 plan is going downhill. At certain places, even in mid valley southkey, the is very very bad ...unable to order even food...unable to launch menu to order!

That is quite possible due to congestion and de-prioritization of StarHub 4G network. I have encountered problems with Eight 4G and CUniq 4G (both are using StarHub 4G network).

At home, Eight 4G (StarHub 4G network) and SIMBA 4G are much worse than SingTel hi! 4G and Circles.Life 4G (M1 4G network).

M1 Maxx 5G and Circles.Life 5G, SingTel SIM Only 5G, StarHub Prepaid S 5G are way faster at home than the best performing SingTel 4G.

SingTel Prepaid 5G and M1 Prepaid 5G are also much faster than any of the 4G plans.

If you take a look at the 5G/4G Speedtest records thread, I have some very bad test results from Eight 4G and SIMBA.

But then there are locations at my workplace that Eight 4G performs better than both SingTel SIM Only 5G and M1 Maxx 5G. So it probably depends on the location. SIMBA is the worst at my workplace.

I have not found any local locations that SIMBA performs the best (no matter 5G or 4G).

FYI, the following result from Eight 4G at home is actually a better one. Often it is worse.

I just ported out of CUniq to SingTel hi! S$10 port-in promotion, using the eSIM option (with eSIM adapter for my Poco X7 Pro which does not support eSIM).

Now it is using a temp number. The eSIM app (Linklan) actually recognises this eSIM profile as from heya.

Speedtest Results of SingTel hi! 4G postpaid plan (Singtel 4G network) at home (Jurong West Area), this is in line with Singtel 4G speed here.

Eight S$8 4G plan (StarHub 4G network) is known to be not good at home, on the same Poco X7 Pro phone.

SIMBA 4G (not able to connect to 5G), another Poco X7 Pro phone.

Circles.Life 4G, M1 4G network (5G speed is much faster). Poco X6 Pro.

So what you’re saying is that Eight is helping you reduce your calorie intake?🤔

In all seriousness, you were in Johor Bahru. Eight wasn't providing your mobile service. A Malaysian mobile carrier was. Eight impressively has 3 roaming partners in Malaysia: DigiCelcom, Maxis, and U Mobile. (SIMBA for example won't roam onto Maxis.) If you're unhappy with the roaming partner you're using, select another!

JB? There's some Maxis Hotlink issues since 10am yesterday, I read. Might have affected...

I thought it was in Singapore. If it is for roaming, then not so much to do with Eight but rather with the roaming partners.
Right, and fortunately Eight supports three roaming partners in Malaysia — including the Malaysian carriers' shared 5G network even if you're on a 4G plan in Singapore. That's really quite excellent!

Your phone won't necessarily automatically pick the best roaming network. Generally mobile phones try to stick with a specific roaming partner once they pick one. That may not necessarily be the best decision in every place you go. You can override your phone's automatic choice by manually selecting a roaming partner network, and then you can further choose the "G" level on most phones.

It’s been a known issue for some time with Malaysia roaming via StarHub (or eight in this case); roaming in other countries works fine.
