Didn't know they'd call to ask about customers cancelling/porting out their lines. :s13:

Wednesday, 3pm - emailed to terminate one of my zero plans.
Thursday,12.30pm - received email confirmation of termination.
Friday 6pm - port-in at Lucky Plaza from Simba.
Friday 7pm - received Simba email confirmation.
11.30pm - line ported in.
Why not sign up a new line with port in online? Or porting die die need to show face in person?

If sign up with port in online, need to go Service centre to collect SIM card. Cant go Ah Beng Retailers to collect SIM card.

Not sure about eSIM, they should send you the QR code to activate?
Email with QR code will arrive rather quickly (my experience with Eight and Simba), to be scanned and activated with the intended device.

Did you port in an existing number or took a new number with your esim?

I’m trying to avoid having to go down to their service center for porting.

Seems like 8 does not charge for esim and moving the esim to another phone. Hope the other follows.
Quite a few MNOs and MVNOs waive fees like SIM and registration already, so not surprising.

I'm not sure which ones will not charge for moving eSIM to a new device, or reinstallation, though. So 8 does that? That'd be good, if so.

The rest charge for re-issuance of eSIM, so yes. Moving eSIM to a new device falls under that category. I know a few who have paid for reissuing. One even had to pay cos the service centre reset the phone to factory settings.

But to your point, not sure if Eight will charge. It is a revenue stream, and our telcos are desperate for revenue.

It's the charging for eSIM replacement that made me buy only dual-SIM iPhones all these days. Only bought one a couple of years back just to play around with, and that's never been my primary/important phone.

IIRC the price of an eSIM replacement is the same as getting a new physical SIM, which to me is ridiculous. Especially those that charge over $30 or $40.

I know Simba charges $5 regardless of physical or eSIM. That's about it coz that's the only local telco eSIM I've tried so far.

Honestly, the physical SIM cards are very cheap, given that the telcos buy them in the thousands. MVNOs perhaps in smaller quantities.

Just like CallerID, Call Waiting, and other VASes - these become revenue streams. It's worse when these companies are listed and have to satisfy shareholders (i.e. must pay out dividends and profit), so there is a reason why costs are going up.
