hi, has anyone tried roaming in Japan? somehow my network keep disconnecting within a few minutes and it will only connect back when I toggle airplane mode on and off, after which it will disconnect again within another few minutes. it's not just data that disconnected, my entire simcard shows "no service" with the exclamation mark

already tried restarting phone, APN already using shwap. I tried to manual select network to KDDI but again after few minutes it will disconnect. also my battery drains super fast (I think it keeps trying to reconnect?)

btw no issue with WiFi.

i had issues with kddi while on simba. if eight uses same kddi, maybe thats why you also facing issues. however there were users that had no issues with kddi roaming. maybe we just unlucky.

good to have a different sim instead of relying on one if travelling. m1 maxx uses softbank and roaming was smooth for me in japan.

myrepublic 4g or 5g? 4g is under m1.. i do see myrepublic 4g or 5g in the list using online method

My experience for kddi at Osaka was phone with Snapdragon cpu ok (mi note 10), mediatek (xm 13T) or Exynos cpu (Samsung A7) cannot, also check that your phone can receive all the kddi 4g bands. Not sure which provinces you went.

All using xm or Samsung

For simba, I think I saw connected to softbank on my mum's phone in Jan 2024, but chk simba website now using kddi, i was using her phone (Redmi note 9T) from airport till hotel.

Current Postpaid Provider option is Empty as in nothing there to choose at all?

Connection problem?

Anyway, when a list appears, look for MyRepublic as I believe the choices are added there these days. Back in the early MR days we'd to choose M1 as the provider.

He said that because I was on Vivifi, I cannot port over directly. Had to port over to Maxx first. Going back in about 3 weeks to port over to Eight from Maxx

huh, why so special? Vivifi cant port to Eight?

Or you want to try initiate the port-in using your Singpass on the Eight website and go to the 4 designated retailers to collect your SIM card?

No idea. He keyed in the number but he claimed cannot port over directly.

The retailer is pulling your leg, I have ported my vivifi line to eight directly without any issues.

Yesterday I was at an eight retailer, told me I cannot port directly from maxx base plan, have to top up with maxx first. Argue with me say base plan cannot port out. I said my line is active and not suspended. Somemore they wanted to charge me $10 for eight $8 plan.

The retailer is pulling your leg, I have ported my vivifi line to eight directly without any issues.

I have also ported from Vivifi to Eight directly via the web site. No problems.

It's the 2 retailers at Boon Lay Shopping Centre.


Avoid them at all cost! I asked them why $10, 1 of the ah lian shop refuse to answer. The other bengz shop say is port in fee admin fee. Thrash. They want to earn $2 kopi money. I wonder how many aunties and uncles has gave in the temptation and paid $10.

I have already reported this 2 retailers to eight.

One retailer I went to, to get an M1 Maxx plan... I notice a little hesitation and also asked for confirmation if it's not Simba I wanted to port to. I guess they've their own "preferences"...

Admin fee, whatever fee.

He just shared yesterday if not the day before. Can scroll back a little to see.

Actually the rest have shared before also. Safest would be to head to the service centre in Ubi.
