Wa lau brother went to port wrongly to esim initially then went down service centre to tell them..they then cancelled the esim and issued a physical sim..but then now porting says failed as duplicate porting
Oh my, that doesn't sound right to me. I would think to activate the eSIM first and convert to pSIM at the SC instead. I don't think by cancelling the eSIM, the number goes back to the donor operator (for that same reason, how to request port-in again?).

Maybe you can consider to post an update on the resolution.

looking at the roaming link
in a layman term if your assumption above is correct

can call = part of entitlement
cannot call = not part of call and cover under no bill shock because call wont connect which also mean incoming shouldnt work too
this is simpler to understand if its how it works

the faq is so vague

To put it simply, IDD calls mean calling from Singapore to another country. Roaming calls, however, depend on the partner operators in the country you're visiting and are listed under 'Network Operator (VoLTE Calls)'.

Listed = can call out / receives | Not listed = cannot. Some bros here mentioned can't call out in MY, not sure if +65 was input before calling out.

The CIS page mentions 288 IDD minutes under 'Plan Entitlement,' which includes 288 VoLTE incoming minutes, 288 VoLTE outgoing minutes to your home country (Singapore), and 288 VoLTE outgoing minutes to the local country you’re roaming in. These 288 minutes should correspond to the same 288 IDD minutes.

Ignore my post. Refer to official reply from Eight Mobile in post #9455

Based on the CIS, it seems like
5) Receiving calls from overseas (non roaming country) numbers: free if under IDD supported destinations
6) Receiving calls from Singapore numbers: free if under IDD supported destinations

but unconfirmed if
3) Calling Singapore numbers: free (in any overseas country) or free if under IDD supported destinations

Anyway I have sent an email to eight to inquiry about all the scenarios, so will update here if they reply.

eight customer support response to my inquiry:

Thank you for your inquiries. Do understand that our plans do include 288mins roaming calls back to Singapore as well and at the destination you roam at!

Before I can proceed answering your questions, first you need to understand the difference between VoLTE vs IDD.

VoLTE stands for Voice over Long-Term Evolution or Voice over LTE. VoLTE offers the possibility to voice call via the LTE/4G* mobile data network. (DATA)

International direct dialling (IDD) calls let you connect to overseas numbers directly. Enjoy all-inclusive IDD Talktime with your overseas friends with our IDD talktime. (IDD)

IDD Supported Destinations:
Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, China, Colombia, Guam, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Romania, Taiwan, Thailand, USA – Alaska, USA – Hawaii, USA – United States Of America, USA – Virgin Islands, Vietnam

Just remember this, VoLTE is using your data so it wont consume your IDD.

Calls made/received when overseas (roaming):
  1. Calling local (roaming country) numbers: 288mins roaming (VoLTE) or Purchase Add-Ons
  2. Calling overseas (non-roaming country) numbers: 288mins IDD supported or Purchase Add-Ons
  3. Calling Singapore numbers (Local to Local): free 288mins Local Talktime
  4. Receiving calls from local (roaming country) numbers: Incoming Calls free
  5. Receiving calls from overseas (non-roaming country) numbers: Incoming Calls free
  6. Receiving calls from Singapore numbers: Incoming Calls free

If any of your 288 mins are depleted, you can purchase add-ons accordingly: https://www.eight.com.sg/plan-add-ons

Now with the cessation of 3G, Volte is required to be ON to call landline. Does Volte usage counts as data or outgoing call? Likewise if we receive call from SG while we are overseas, will Volte usage deduct from allocated roaming as per roaming plan?
My understanding is VoLTE is required for all calls, both landline & mobile.
It should be counted as outgoing calls, VoLTE call does not even require mobile data to be enabled.

The amount of data used is low enough that even if it is counted as allocated roaming data, it should not be a concern. This would be a bigger topic if there is no roaming data and you are trying to limit to call/sms only.

hi, one question. if the roaming data depleted or local data depleted.. will it continue charge us at "whatever" rate? or it will just stop working?

dont wish to get a bill shock when my parents go overseas and used up everything.

Thanks in advance
