Manage to switch to Band 3, now speed is better

Code:
4G Cellular Information
Detail
EARFCN 1600
Band 3
Bandwidth 20 MHz
Physical cell ID 104
RSRP -98
RSRQ -12
SINR 3.5
If you can use 4G+ maybe faster speed.
Down 33Mbps Up 4Mbps is equivalent to TPG Simba speed.

Can I check with you guys what are the steps to take in the event if I lose my phone? Eight is to wait for them to open and go down to the service center and to do a replacement? Since there is no number to call, and they take some time to reply to emails, I'm a little concerned if I lose my phone especially outside their opening hours or overseas, because I can't call to suspend the line immediately, although is this a common step to do even with other telcos, to suspend the line? I think esim maybe not so crucial, but physical might be a problem because the person who picked up your phone will have access to your number and eight account using OTP, and if you have CC in your account they might play and top up your account to the max.

Go to one of the service centres to get a SIM card replacement? It's still FOC now. Just bring your ID along.

Actually what I am worried of is if I am overseas, what's the best course of action if I am using physical sim? I'm afraid the finder will abuse the number.

IMO, make a police report if you're worried it'd be misused illegally. Otherwise, PM them in FB and also send them an email.

They'll at most deduct/charge you for the present month, if renewal is due within the next couple of days.

So I know what to do if it happens. Accidents do happen, be it theft or what not.

I believe u do lock ur hp, for added security add app lock onto ur sensitive apps.

Enable 'find your device', iirc u can find, secure, or erase a device remotely using it.

As for sim, no choice but to inform telco & make police report.

I was in JB for the past 2 days, the data roaming with the two partners are quite unusable - encountered a lot of spots with weak 4G connections, and also spots where it is non-existent at all (only EDGE connection). The area around KSL seems to be the worst for some reason.

Don't think it's the fault of Eight, more like issues with the mobile infra there

Same. Went in yesterday and encountered E at the start though it got better subsequently.

Ya, friend on some other telco couldn't connect on his phone till he had to forcefully downgrade to 4G then it works.

Always on 4G since porting to Eight and noticed longer battery life (compared to 5G on M1).

I get decent speed in my area (77Mbps/16Mbps) and always on Wifi at home so no issues for me.

There's very little that Eight Telecom can do to affect network performance when you're roaming on another network. But there are a few things you can do:
  • Use less data. For example, if you're trying to watch streaming video on a ~6 inch screen (why?), knock the resolution down. A 1080p H.265 video stream typically requires 4 times as much bandwidth as a 480p stream. And you don't have an unlimited data allotment anyway, so be reasonable. Also try turning off "background" data consumption. For example, you probably don't need to download app and OS updates while on a roaming network. Wait until you get onto Wi-Fi for those updates. And download what you need on Wi-Fi before you leave wherever you're staying. For example, Google Maps and Apple Maps both support downloading map regions.
  • In many countries (including Malaysia) Eight Telecom has two or more roaming partners. If you're dissatisfied with one roaming network, try another.
  • Try roaming with and without 5G enabled. Sometimes 5G works better, and sometimes it doesn't.
  • Try switching your phone into Airplane Mode, wait 30 seconds, then switch it out. (Or power cycle your phone.) This cycling might cause your phone to register with a better tower or better frequency band.
  • Make sure your device supports the frequency bands where you are, particularly the "low" (below 1,000 MHz) frequency bands that offer the best coverage within buildings and in rural areas. You might not get high data speeds on a low band, but at least you'll be more likely to have any connection.
  • If you suspect that DNS (Domain Name System) lookups are slowing down Web browsing or other activities, try enabling DNS over HTTPS to your preferred DNS server(s). For example, you can find the Quad9 profile for iOS and iPadOS devices here. Don't forget to update the profile shortly before it expires! (Set a reminder to yourself.)
