Anyone has issue with roaming with Eight in HK? I went through the roaming list and noticed that the roaming only for data.No receiving of sms and voice call.

Just finished a train trip (2:25 pm to 2:51pm, Saturday), a easy trip from Boon Lay to Queenstown.

Eight S$8 per month plan 4G speed is not good even though usable, at between 5 Mbps to 10 Mbps. Guess Eight 5G is the way to go if I want to use Eight as the main line. But I am not.

M1 Maxx S$10 plan is almost consistently using 5G SA, only a brief drop to 4G after Jurong East MRT. M1 Maxx 5G can be very fast as well, even faster than SingTel 5G SA in some places. But Singtel 5G SA signal is more stable and more consistent.

I am using a very low end Poco C75 4G only phone bought in June 2025 at S$112 for this testing, so my expectation is pretty low.

Eight 4G managed to " beat" my expectation with the "easy" above the ground MRT trip from Jurong East to Boon Lay, from 4:02 pm to 4:16 pm on this Saturday afternoon.

Speed at Jurong East and Boon Lay are pretty good at above 10 Mbps. Then it managed to go below 1 Mbps (0.42 Mbps download , 0.14 Mbps upload) around Chinese Garden MRT. Then go up a bit but still below 2 Mbps (1.62 Mbps download, 0.06 Mbps upload) around Lakeside MRT.

Concur there are dead spots along JE and Boon Lay and along Chinese Gardens roads also. But resumes good speed when going towards Bukit Batok area.

I rather they come out with 512m/1Gbps at $8/30 days
This is a good proposition!
500/1Gbps sufficient for most general users honestly, and having it at this price keeps the cost low.
But unlikely since the NLT charges base cost is already `$20 which has been shared multiple times.

Anyways, mobile having the same promo.
Came across it on FB ads, so in fact did not have to rush and port during the last Tech Show.

if my renewal is stated as 7 Dec, can i just remove my credit card

i intend to port out in december
Eight don't have option to "remove", only update.
But you can toggle the "Auto Recharge" off, but you need to make sure that it's active when you are porting out.
Which means to port out on your last few days of the cycle, once it's not recharged, considered inactive and unable to port out IIRC.

Thanks this is very crucial info. I’ll try to do it within first few days of Dec

This is a nice feature of Eight.

For M1 Maxx, if you sign up online, then it is not possible to remove the credit card as it will be set up for recurring payment. You can call in to remove recurring payment but then they will immediately terminate your current plan and downgrade it to the M1 Maxx Base Plan.
