Anybody here who used Eight mobile roaming in China? Does it use 5G or still LTE? Tried Simba before is only LTE and is using China Unicom. I understand for Eight partners with China Mobile but is not really clear if it uses 5G or only LTE.
I went to China inland provinces earlier this year,
Eight roaming on China Mobile only 4g
but the reliability was very good, even mountainous area also solid connections

I am using the following three for my short trip to Nan'an, Jinjiang and Shishi , South Fujian, China.

None of my three lines are able to connect to 5G roaming.

Eight S$8 4G plan -- China Mobile 4G
SIMBA S$12 plan -- China Telecom 4G
CUniq S$9.9 4G plan -- China Unicom 4G

My Singtel S$15.28 SIM Only plan seems to be able to connect to China Mobile 5G network but I do not use it for roaming data. I only use it for receiving SMS.

China Mobile 4G is still the best among the three in terms of signal strength and consistency. Occasionally I will feel laggy with SIMBA and CUniq. But the SIMBA (26GB) and CUniq (20GB) have more China roaming data than Eight (2GB).

Thanks for this. I tried Starhub as well I was able to get 5G signal, quite good in China Mobile. However since I had 1 GB only, i resorted back to Simba 5G plan ( but was able to use only China Unicom 4G) and is quite very slow. Good to know that using Eight even 4G @ China Mobile is very good. I ported in recently. I have Eight 5G plan and Zym 5G plan. So will test in Beijing and Harbin later this month and see the speed for both.

Been using eight 5G for the past month and a half, most of the time when I'm driving around, I don't know why it falls to 4G. Never faced this issue on Singtel prior.

Idk why it's almost like it falls back to 4G for more stability because it knows I'm driving?? But when I'm stationary or get out from my car, it goes back to 5G.

17 pro max. 5G always on, instead of auto.

Am very much on the fence now whether to continue with eight or port to CMLink for the same price essentially promo.

1) The credit balance inside eight mobile account does it has any validity that it will expire?

2) when eight has started its business since?

3) any past MNVO has ended their business before and what will happen to the overpayment of a customer?

1) No expiry date as long as your Eight Plan is active and you keep renew it.

2) Eight is a subsidiary of Starhub.

3) Because of #2, unlikely it will be closed.

For reference, when SingTel decides to close down heya, heya users' balances are kept if they agree to migrate to the new SingTel hi! 4G Postpaid plan (but managed by SingTel Prepaid Team).

My $88 top up was completed around 1.30pm, some 12 hours after initial purchase on Shopee. I think seller has quite a number of back log to clear. All good. Now waiting for bonus to come within the next 7 days.

And seriously, Eight roaming (Umobile) in Johor Bahru the speed is definitely faster than in Singapore 4G.

It is certainly decent enough. My usage in both Lion city and bolehland.
renewal date is 22 Dec 2025

Icic. Then actually worthy to top up more $88 for this case.

The only fact to know about the credit in the wallet is not refundable and exchangeable for cash which is same for any prepaid card also.

I just switched to Eight 5G to test out

went out to the supermarket and did a few random speed tests
dl 400-600 mbps but upload only 2-60+ mbps

another thing I noticed is when it goes to 4G, have to toggle aeroplane mode to get 5G back

back to my home study where I spend the most time,
connection is only 4G+, cannot get 5G at all

as this is my 2nd line, usage primarily for online shopping and traveling,
I will probably go back to 4G at the next renewal

seriously for mobile usage I do not see a need to have 5G. As long as there is 4G coverage it is decent for any kind of thing u can do on a mobile phone.

if u want to play mobile game on 5G on the move, it is not going to give u constant connection without letting u to lose a game as well.

Yes, even if Eight 4G may not be that good for some users, Eight 5G plan (5G with 4G fallback) should be good enough for many users.

But if you have problems with Eight 5G already, then that is another story. In that case, CMLink six months 50% OFF offers may be worth considering (promotion until 18 Dec 2025).

Hi, is there still any shopee links for the 88 top up?

If I top up 88 directly in the eight app, am I eligible for the bonus 88?

Thanks.

For the main plan, I will for sure go with 5G plans. I have tried all three 4G plans. Singtel 4G plans may be good enough for some users, but not for me. Starhub/M1 4G plans will be worse.

I will prefer M1 Maxx S$10 5G plans than the best 4G plans on Singtel network.

But this is just my personal opinion based on my own testing.

On the other hand, for the secondary line, no issues to go with cheap 4G plans like Eight S$8 plan, especially since it has free roaming voice.
