manually set to celcomdigi (4G), likely u will have better experience.

so far in bolehland, most of the time, my eight line is connected to celcomdigi (4G) automatically on my iphone while rare occasion, it is connected to maxis or u mobile.
will try celcomdigi next time. thanks.

I'm now leaning towards using $12 Maxx as 5G backup instead of $14.80 Eight.

If you need a 5G plan as a backup to your main SIMBA plan, then probably M1 Maxx S$12 plan is a good option. My previous test shows M1 Maxx S$10 5G plan is better than eight S$8 4G plan and SIMBA S$12 "5G" plan for local usage. Unfortunately M1 has dropped 5G from the S$10 plan.

But I tend to think a SingTel MVNOs 5G plan may be better at around S$15.

Or even a Singtel MVNOs 4G plan at around S$7 will be sufficient, cheaper than M1 Maxx S$12 plan.

My test shows SingTel hi! S$10 postpaid plan (port-in offer) is better than eight S$8 4G plan and SIMBA S$12 "5G" plan for local usage. I assume Zym/Zero1/VIVIFI/CMLink 4G plan to be on par with SingTel hi! 4G postpaid plan, but cheaper at around S$7 or S$7.7.

On the other hand, eight S$8 and SIMBA S$12 plan are still of very good value, especially for roaming (both have free roaming voice). I am keeping eight S$8 plan as a backup and roaming solution to my main SingTel S$15.28 line. I have cancelled my SIMBA S$12 line. Because of the S$88 one to one top-up offer, the average cost per month for the next 22 months is only at S$4 per month.

Any idea Eight 5G vs Maxx 5G which one more reliable local usage for main line? Peak period mrt, underground and best coverage.

Zym 5G and Z1 5G should be better than the above 2 right?

For overseas i reckon 8 would be best.

I was in Germany, Austria and Italy roaming in city was mostly fine. Sometimes need to airplane mode on/off for it to connect.

Germany, Austria some rural area hiking a bit spotty or no network.

Not sure was it the 5G or taking too many pictures draining the battery fast. Thus sometimes i stick to 4G which works for google maps.

For me, both are about the same when taking NSL and circle line (till bishan)
Similar blind spots, similar patchy areas. Though in recent months, seems like alot more downgrading to 4G+ at train stations for Eight.

Already downgraded my Maxx to base, so i ain't using it alot

If you ask here, then you will get NO! STARHUB BEST! .. just kidding :ROFLMAO:

In the end, it's all about personal experience. Maybe you can provide more details of which line you take in their respective threads and ask those user their experience

It is hard to say.

For peak period MRT, the reports seem to indicate that Zym 5G and Zero1 5G also have issues. Basically none of the MVNOs are good for this particular use case. You may need to have two providers to help (eg: Zym 5G + M1 Maxx 5G) or more expensive plans like Singtel 5G+ Enhanced or Singtel 5G+ Priority, or maybe Starhub 5G Unlimited+ plans.

By right Starhub and M1 share the same 5G infrastructure but different 4G infrastructure. So the performance of Eight 5G should be similar to Maxx 5G when you can get 5G.

When you do not get 5G and fall back to 4G, then Starhub 4G network is supposed to have better coverage but more congested than M1's 4G network.

In the end you have to carry out the test by yourself, try one of them first, if not good, port out and then try next one.

I am using 8 5G usually from khatib to harbourfront for mrt peak. Eight 4g cmi, 5g still bearable.

Vivo city is completely no reception 5g certain slots, switch 4g also spotty.

To me eight price 5G just few cents cheaper than ST Mvno, but cheaper than Maxx.

Basically for local usage, I will stick to my SingTel S$15.28 per month SIM Only Plan (recontract offer, not for new users, not for port-in).

Then for roaming, I will use eight S$8 plan and maybe Shopee data eSIM when necessary.

eight S$8 plan is also a good backup in certain locations for my SingTel main line.

If you got the recent S$88 one to one top-up offer (you can even top up multiple of S$88), then eight S$14.8 per month 5G plan will have the effective price of S$7.4 per month for the durations the top-up can last.

BTW, ST MVNOs had the 50% OFF offer (three months or six months) recently for the S$15-ish 5G plan (and S$10-ish 4G plan with 180 days 5G Access). Quite some M1 Maxx users jumped ship to those plans (Zym, Zero1, VIVIFI and CMLink). Now this offer is over and they start to throw in more roaming data for the Christmas offer with one time extra 50 GB (365 days validity) for Japan, South Korea and Australia.

Ported over to Eight from CMLink. The 5G SA is not everywhere. Some places have 5G NSA and I am wondering if NSA shutdown, what will happen to the connection? 4G?

1. For users who are willing to use two plans to complement each other, I tend to think the following combinations are not bad, 5G+4G combination.

1) eight S$14.8 5G + Singtel MVNOs 4G at around S$7 or S$7.7

2) M1 Maxx S$12 5G + Singtel MVNOs 4G at around S$7 or S$7.7

3) Singtel MVNO 5G plan at around S$15 + eight S$8 4G

4) M1 Maxx S$12 5G + eight S$8 4G

5) SIMBA S$12 5G + eight S$8 4G

2. You can of course go with dual 5G plans if you are willing to pay.

1) eight S$14.8 5G + Singtel MVNOs 5G at around S$15

2) M1 Maxx S$12 5G + Singtel MVNOs 5G at around S$15

3) M1 Maxx S$12 5G + eight S$14.8 5G

4) M1 Maxx S$12 5G + SIMBA S$12 5G

5) eight S$14.8 5G + SIMBA S$12 5G

Not only for SingTel MVNOs, but also for SingTel itself, after the shutdown of 5G NSA network, the fall back will be 4G.

I actually expect my user experiences of the main SingTel S$15.28 line to deteriorate a bit after the shutdown of the 5G NSA Network.

But SingTel can probably improve the 5G core network to provide more capacities for 5G SA.

In case of StarHub, it may need to beef up both the 5G Core Network and 4G Core Network to improve the congestion situation.

For M1, it may need to beef up the 5G Core Network and 4G Radio Access Network to improve 5G capacity and 4G signal coverage.

5G SA : 5G Radio Access Network + 5G Core Network

5G NSA : 5G Radio Access Network + 4G Core Network (to shut down)

4G LTE : 4G Radio Access Network + 4G Core Network

I don't think this combination makes a lot of sense. M1 and StarHub (including Eight) share Antina's 5G network. Although I guess you get different 4G fallback behaviors.🤷

Yes, that is the intention.

But I agree that this is not the best combination. I put it at #3 position. I tend to think it will still be better than #4 and #5 (combination including SIMBA).

1) eight S$14.8 5G + Singtel MVNOs 5G at around S$15

2) M1 Maxx S$12 5G + Singtel MVNOs 5G at around S$15

3) M1 Maxx S$12 5G + eight S$14.8 5G

4) M1 Maxx S$12 5G + SIMBA S$12 5G

5) eight S$14.8 5G + SIMBA S$12 5G

guys my eight 4G like not lag anymore previously super lag but now like okay not sure what changed

People are having vacation now.

Wait for next Monday or better 5 Jan 2026 to see if you get real improvement or not.

StarHub is unlikely to improve much on 4G Radio Access Network (coverage, probably good enough already) and 4G Core Network (Capacity problem, this is probably the real problem).

I do hope that StarHub can improve its 4G core Network to have less congestion problems.

Better strategy for dual plans with MVNOs, choose one from Bucket 1 and then add another one from Bucket 2 but from different network. And of course you can select from Bucket 1.1 and 1.2 (dual 5G plans).

I tend to recommend eight and SIMBA as the prefer choice from Bucket 2 because of the free roaming voice but you may not need free roaming voice.

Bucket 1: 5G networks but not including SIMBA

B1.1) ST MVNO 5G plans, like Gomo, CMLink or Zym
B1.2) M1/StarHub MVNO 5G plans, like Maxx and eight

2. Bucket 2: 4G network and SIMBA (SIMBA 5G is more comparable to other telcos' 4G)

B2.1) ST MVNO 4G plans, like Gomo, CMLink or Zym
B2.2) M1 MVNO 4G plans, like Maxx
B2.3) StarHub MVNO 4G plans, like eight
B2.4) SIMBA

For Seniors, then dual plans should work pretty well like the following.

1) SIMBA S$5 Senior plan + ST S$5 hi! Senior 4G plan

2) eight S$5 Senior plan + ST S$5 hi! Senior 4G plan

I think 1) is a bit better than 2) because of better roaming benefits.
